Whenever I try, it ends up looking like dark grey. Here is the kind of look I'm going for.

I'm not sure how to blend from the black to the pure white, while keeping the realistice look.

I would mix i some blue with the black as your first stage of highlight and then start adding the white, i use enchanted blue if thats any help (assuming you are using GW paints).

What ratio of blue to black do you use on the first highlight?

About how many different blends of blue and black do you use before you blend in white?

Do you ever go to pure skull white?
