My opponent and I yesterday had a discussion about this during a game. He had a vehicle oriented to expose Front Armor but after blowing a transport for my squad he flipped it around with his 'free pivot because the vehicle did not move' so he could Flamer/Multi-laser the squad.

I did not think this kind of move was allowed, but we diced it and went on (plus it did not end up making a difference). It is difficult to 'prove' that the rule he stated is not in the rulebook (without going through the whole thing line by line with him) but I was hoping for confirmation that he cannot pivot in the shooting face to acquire a target or the page that lets him do so.

Thanks.

Normal vehicles may not pivot in the shooting phase. They have to do it in the movement phase. This is because nowhere says they CAN pivot in the movement phase, so they cannot.

Walkers and non-vehicles may pivot in the shooting phase to face their targets.

Thanks for the confirmation, he must have read the Walker section and took it to be all vehicles. This seemed too abusable to be true.

Or he played in 4th ed and remembered old rules. Used to have a free pivot in the shooting phase, now we don't.

He did used to paly in fourth but he told me they looked it up in the BRB the other day and read it out of the book so I figure that must be where he read about pivoting and vehicles for shooting.

Well, don't know what to say. He's wrong. While pivoting (during the movement phase) does not count as movement for purposes of shooting, it is still only allowed in the movement phase. He might be confused by the fact that it mentions the pivot in the shooting section, page 58, but that is still referring to pivoting during the movement phase. (Yeah, I'm trying very hard to give him the benefit of the doubt). Bottom line, nowhere does it say that you can pivot in the shooting phase.

That is what I pointed out and he said no I read it in xyz section, so I am hoping I can show him the walker section, he will say yeah thats what I read! and I'll be like 'You are entirely correct...for walkers'

Remember, he has to show you the rule - you don't have to prove it's not there!

I know, but I did not want to wait around for 20 minutes while he looks for something that does not exist
