Any one in the Georgetown / Round Rock area?
My daugthers and I are laid back kind of players, not rule book thumpers.
Just want to know if there are any good gaming sites within 50 miles of the area.

I'm not from that area, but I do know of Battle Forge Games in Austin. The guys from Bell of Lost Souls (BoLS) game there unless I'm mistaken. I was there the other day on a sunday afternoon and there where about 30 or so people there playing several different games. Product wise the store was a little empty the day that I stopped by. I'm not sure if they are going through some remodeling or something, but they had a ton of floor space and tables to game on.

They usually keep their shelves stocked with one of everything but have most of it in the back to save shelf space. I have been there only once and me and my friend were the only ones there but we got there early and were there to shop not play. We plan on going back sometime as the guy that was working there when we were there will actually give lessons for free you just have to schedule something with him. Me and my friends actually live in Georgetown. We all play different 40k races ranging from my 6000 point DA army to a handful of tau. We are all still learning how to play. I also have gone to Rogues gallery for stuff and from what my friend has told me they will start having 40k nights but I don't know.

Battle forge is the nexus of Austin wargaming, from what my few months here have told me. There is also a place called Dragon's Lair which is more oriented to nerdom of all flavors (comics, board games, dnd, etc) but has quite a few tables and a fully stocked gw section. Both Red_Zeke and I live in the area... He is the only other dakkite I know from Austin and we are always looking for games with casual players. Pm and let's set up a game

I'm in Bryan/College station, which is a little far away to make it for weekly gaming. I think it is a good 2 hours to Austin from me.
Makes me sad. I am still looking for a group in the central area.

True, my local store is 1 1/2 hours away if there isn't any traffic. It is a test of commitment for sure, but worth it for me. I find that I have come to love the modeling aspect of the hobby a lot as a result.

Battleforge Games is closed, but Dragon's Lair and Wonko's are still open for business.

They didn't really publicly get into the details of exactly what happened. Don't know what they did with their stock, but they're hanging on to the tables and such in the hopes of getting a club together at some point. Focus seems to have mainly moved to Dragon's Lair since then, though I stopped in Wonko's and they seemed really nice.

I honestly prefer wonkos. The people there are great and the owner and workers are always helpful. However stopping in for a casual game doesn't usually work as at the moment they have a limited amount of table space. However every second Saturday of the month they host a pretty laid back tournament (usually about 2k pts) and the store staysnopen late in the previous Thursday and Friday for painting and such.

I guess I am left with the question does either Dragon's Lair or Wonko's have space set aside for painting / modeling?
Curious as I am going to be in Austin for 4 - 6 weeks for work, and figured I would use the night/weekends to build a new army

I've never had an issue finding table space to build/paint on at Dragon's Lair, no matter what day of the week or time of the day. I think you're good to go.

I drove by the carcass of battleforge this past week. The store was cleaned out with the exception of the slat walls, one book case and the glass case the register was on. That means it was probably not a lock-out. Usually when a store get too behind on lease payments the property owner will lock them out of the place and seize the goods and fixtures to recoup the lost rent. Unless they pulled a cali style sneak out in the middle of the night, it appears to have been a calculated move. Too bad. I really liked the location with the food places and the Draft house in the same strip.
Dragon's lair has a back room that is dedicated to game space. I think I have seen as much as 8 tables out so I think you'll find room. They do have a pretty busy game schedule so you may want to check before dropping by... unless you don't care to be climbed on by home school Tuesday kids or foot fungus Friday or whatever.
Only been to Wonko's a couple of times and I don't go there anymore. When a store posts hours and fails to keep them, they lose my business.

There is always Rogue's Gallery. *Ahem* I'm even the one who added it to the Store Finder *Ahem*
They dont have much space, I think they run a game day every now and then. It is, however, still a good place to get minis.
