are there any chaos assualt marines out there or there only raptors?

That's like asking "are there any loyalist assault marines or are there only loyalist assault marines?"


Technically speaking, though, Khornate Berzerkers are "assault" Marines.

I think he was meaning do they have any form of Jump-troops that are not Guano-insane Self indulgent half Maniacs with sticks up their rear-ends(Fluffwise anyway).

The answer is no.

Although Melissa is right they do have Berzerkers which are Pack-less assault marines that function vastly better(better weapon skill, more attacks, and more can be on the field at a time)

For the legions that havn't given in to the effects of chaos, like the Alpha Legion and Nightlords, probably.

i think that logically there would be, seeing as how most (if not all) space marine legions would have had assault marines.
also, the nightlords did give into chaos. a lot.
that's why most raptors are mutated and such.

anyway, no. according to the book, after the night haunter was assassinated and sahaal (who would have been the new leader of the night lords) was lost to the warp, some (then i think all) of them very slowly gave in to chaos undivided, getting wings instead of jump-packs, backwards-facing knees for better grip and landing i think, and other things to make them faster and more terrifying to their foes/victims

That post alone made the Night Lords lose a lot of cool points in my book. They're cooler as Batmarines, not Marinebats.

And I don't read Warhammer books. I'd imagine that, with my favourite authors being Neil Gaiman and Bret Easton Ellis, picking up something from the Black Library would be a big drop in quality.

I love the bat ears. Niel Gaiman wrote Sandman, amoung other amazing things (I'm actually reading American Gods right now, it's quite good), and Bret Easton Ellis is responsible for Less Than Zero and American Psycho.

Some Raptors modify their armour to be scarier, but it's not compulsory. There's no reason you couldn't model Raptors in more normal-looking armour. Their tactics would be relatively the same, as that's pretty much how they were originally used at the time of the Heresy... They were relatively rare, elite shock troops.


I suspect though that the Raptor's belief in their own superiority would be one factor that would tend to lead to more of them falling under the sway of Chaos a little more heavily than their less flighty brethren in the less 'chaotic' Legions.

I thought Raptors were a Cult much like Obliterators? In that sense they can only be brought on board if you have something to offer them.

As for the Night Lords, I always assumed from the codex fluff about them that the Chaos gods were merely tools for them to use.

In an older WD they had a short story about terrified guardsmen witnessing the Night Lords in action. The Lords' LR being draped in their comrades still living, but horrifically mutilated bodies.

For me the Night Lords don't do it for chaos, they do it because they can and thats why I love them so.

that's true cannon, lord of night backs it up and in codex CSM 3rd edition it says the do not worship the chaos powers as gods and it had all cool chapter based rules like night sensers more fast attack and more than 1 raptor squad and veteran ability's that gw flawed with codex spiky space pirates 5th edition.

Re: night lords and chaos, in their new book soul hunter it explains how some war bands have given in to chaos, but others spurn it's gifts preferring to choose their own fate. They do mention that krieg acerbus, the dude in lord of the night does lead the largest coalition of night lords. But the novels protagonists, tenth company remain largely unmutated

Ever looked at their weapons loadout? Pistol, Bolter, and Chainsword.

In short, EVERY chaos marine is an assault marine.
