Dark elves!

Not too familiar with the 8th edition rule set, though is it?:

heroes-25%-
core-25%+
special-25%-
rare-15%-

I heard things like: Only units with standard bearers could "capture objectives"...

Anyway, off to go read more about 8th edition.

Lord-
Dreadlord-244
Armor of Eternal Servitude
Shield
Sea Dragon Cloak
Ring of Hotek
Heart Seeker

Heroes-290

Master-140
Heavy Armor
Sea Dragon Cloak
Shield
Chillblade

Sorceress-150
Staff of Sorcery
Tome of Furion

Core-946
10 Crossbowmen w/ Banner
10 Crossbowmen w/ Banner
10 Crossbowmen w/ Banner
10 Crossbowmen w/ Banner
10 Crossbowmen w/ Banner

7 Harpies

7 Harpies

7 Harpies

Assassin-165
Venom Sword

Special-463
13 Blackguard w/ Banner & Musician
Standard of Hag Graef

14 Blackguard w/ Banner & Musician
Standard of Slaughter

Rare-300
Repeater Bolt Thrower
Repeater Bolt Thrower
Repeater Bolt Thrower

What do you all think? I like it, will burn a big hole in my pockets though.

The harpies will be there to deny marches and hunt out enemy warmachines.

Two solid units, dreadlord with the larger unit, and the master with the smaller one. The assassin will probably go with the dreadlord.

Is rare 15%? I would love me another bolt thrower.

Good first attempt but theres alot of wasted points.

Core:

Units of 10 xbows will not survive a combat when combat gets to them. 2 units of 20 will be better.
I'm not a huge fan of the Venom Sword on the assassin. Manbane, Rune of Khaine or Touch of Death will still work.

Lords/Heros:

Wased points on a foot drealord. The only point of a drealord (imo) is to have a dragon. Having 2 masters (one being a BSB) would be better if you want them on foot.
The sorceress is a waste of points, since there is only 1 you really shouldn't expect her cast much.

You have the ring of hotek, so you really will be trying to keep your army inside of the bubble.

Special:

Blackguard - Hag Graef is no longer needed imo (they are I6 after all) so the ASF bonus does not help them (as they already reroll to hit).

Remember we really have to wait for the online FAQ to know for sure how everything will work.

DukeRustfield - There's nothing wrong with beer and pretzels. I'm pretty sure they are the most important members of the food group.

Rare is 25% But you won't be able to take 5 bolt throwers. You can only have two of a single rare choice (I'm operating under the assumption that the two for one deal still stands for some specials and rares)

there is one mission where banners are important, but it has nothing to do with where they are. Its how many you have alive each turn. do a search for "Blood and Glory" or "breakpoint"

That just seems like a lot of harpies for 2k.

And for magic, if you keep that single sorceress a level 1, then you'll only be able to attempt one spell a turn, and since your opponent is going to have d6+ whatever other dice he brought, it'll be hard to get it off without being suicidally aggressive with the amount of power dice you use.

A second level 1, or going up to level 2 will give you more spells to use that 2d6 power dice pool with. It seems to me that in 8th, if you don't really want to get any spells off, don't bother with wizards at all. Its harder to dispel with level 1s, dispel scrolls will be erratta'ed to be more expensive and not spammable, might as well just use your dispel dice pool with no wizard level or channeling bonus, and save the points. or take at least 3 levels of spellcasting (or a few bound items) and expect to get more off than you used to.

Hmm. Alrighty:

Merging four units of crossbowmen into two groups.

Dropping one unit of harpies.

Adding a second level one sorceress.

Dropping the BG banner bearer with standard of hag graef.

Adding in another bolt thrower.

Turning the dreadlord into a master, and taking off heart seeker and ring of hotek for a vanilla magic weapon.

Putting the RoH onto a newly created leader for the black guard.

Thanks Shep and Casper.

To expound upon what has been mentioned above, a single lvl 4 caster is superior to 2 lvl 2's or even four lvl 1's with what I've seen from practice games. The +4 to each casting attempt make failing to cast pretty much a rarity, and the +4 to dispel makes it really tough for any of your opponents lvl 1-2 casters to ever get anything off.

Also, you don't really need to worry all that much about miscasts, as the +4 to cast removes the need for an entire extra die when making your roll. Unless you're going for one of the really high casting cost (like the 20+ Fire spell), you'll rarely need more than 2 dice on a casting attempt when using a lvl 4 caster.

However, a natural 1 or 2 roll will still result in a "loss of concentration". I can't remember what this does... I think it means they cannot cast anymore that phase.

So, you won't usually want to attempt a cast with less than two dice, regardless of the level of your caster.
