Hello fellow Dakkites.

i've got a buddy interested in wargaming, and he's ready to start his first army. He's interested in Blood Angels, and i know nothing about them except they're cc oriented. what makes a good starting point for BA? I'm hoping to get him up to 1000 points. my main army is mech guard and i'd be his main opponent.

I plan to take him by the flgs sometime, but I want to know what i'm getting him into with this army.

Thanks

BA is a good choice although it can be a bit difficult for a newcomer to master them.

Anyway, I'd start with 20 Assault Marines as a core.
They can have either jump packs or be mounted into transports (Rhinos).

I'd consider two Baal Predators with assault cannons and a Reclusiarch as HQ.

sounds like a good start . . . whats the deal with sanguinary guard and priests. I know something in that list gives a fnp save, and that sounds like a good deal for a newbie in that it gives them a wider margin for error so they wont lose as may models.

For a starter army the Recluisarch is a great choice. For troops I would run two squads of assault Marines (meltagun, power fist & infernus pistol)... Best to start off running them in rhinos which are dirt cheap for assault Marines. You'll want one Sanguinary Priest (power sword) to run with each assault squad. For your hard core assault unit you run either DC or assault terminators... Put them in a landraider Crusader with the HQ & another Priest if you opt for the terminators. Next I would take two Baal predators (TL assault cannon & HB sponsons). This will form the core of your army. Any points left over could go towards more troops.
