Hi all I'm a new player to Warhammer and I just recently started putting together and painting a space wolves 5 man melee based assault squad. I would really Appreciate it any advice on what weapons to mount as it stands now I have one fully assembled and painted with a storm hammer and shield and a sergeant with banner and duel lightning claws. I'm just not sure what to do with the other 3 in the squad want to keep them lower points for sure I'm just not sure what weapons I should equip any advice would help thank you.

First you need to pick a unit. Grey Hunters, Blood Claws, or Wolf Guard. This is very important because they get kitted out differently.

However, regardless of which unit you choose, assault squads need to be minimum of 8 guys. Five guy squads that you intend to get stuck in to melee just don't cut it.

Once you choose which unit your making then look at what options are available. You can't go wrong with Mark of the Wolfen. If it has the option of a squad based P-fist or power weapon, I'd only take the power weapon as the P-fist will only get 1 attack after the initial charge/counter charge. P-fists should only go on Wolf Guard as they have the base 2 attacks. If your making a Grey Hunter squad, take the wolf banner. It will be the best 10 points you ever spend.

Blood Claws Do not have Jump Packs and are a Troop Choice.
Skyclaws Do have Jump Packs and are a Fast Attack Choice.

Noobpainter: first off; it helps greatly when you call your squad by the correct name. We do not even know what squad you are talking about as SW do not have Assault Squads.

Secondly; none of the options you listed even exist on the Sky claws(the closest thing to what you seem to be talking about). The only Squad in the SW dex that has a "sergeant" Is Long Fangs, and he is a pack leader.

Thirdly; Based on the models you have started making it sounds like you are making Wolf Guard with Jump-packs. The only problem there is they do not have an option for a banner.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Yes I do have a copy of the codex but like I said I'm still really new to the game looks like the models I'm working on will have to be a wolf guard but couldn't I attach the wolf guard to my skycalw unit. So the pack leader would be a bannered wolf guard with jump pack and 2 lightning claws, so would the best options for the sky claws be chain sword and bolter or maybe a power fist in the unit or should I go with a heavy weapon option in there and sorry if my lingo is incorrect still in the learning phase of this game.

Here is my suggestions. I will start with your basic Troops. You should also consider picking up the Space Wolf Battle Force. This will let you build evething I am giving you, but the Skyclaws, but an Assault Squad should give you that.

1st Grey Hunters; get some, this is how mine look and they usually don’t fail me.

Grey Hunters Pack
-1x Grey Hunter with a Power Fist and the Wolf Standard, this will give you some Anti-Armor and Mounster Creature killing Power. Remember to Pop the Wolf Standard before you Expect to get into Close Combat and It comes into Effect in that Grey Hunter’s Assault Phase. This will give you Re-Rolls on all “ONES” you make including from MotW, Saves and Power Fist Damage Rolls
1x Grey Hunter with the Mark of the Wolfen, this will give you 1d6+1 Rending Attacks.
2x Grey Hunters with Plasma Guns, Kills MEQ’s and light Vehicles. Don’t worry about “Gets Hot” if you worry about it, it will happen.
1x Grey Hunter with a Plasma Pistol [See Above]
6x Grey Hunters with Bolt Guns, Bolt Pistols, and a Close Combat Weapon. They are one of the best Troops in the game, they can Gun-Line or Assault with the best.

1x Wolf Priest in; Runic Armour with Melta Bombs Wolftooth Necklace; Crozius Arcanum x1; Plasma Pistol; Oath of War. The Oath of War is one of the most Important Abilities for your Blood Claws. You Choose an Enemy Type like “Infantry” and when you Assault you can Re-Roll all Misses.

Blood Claws Pack
-1x Blood Claw with a Power Weapon [For # of Attacks] or Power Fist [If you take a Power Fist give him one of the Flamers so he does not loose any Attacks for not having 2 Close Combat Werapon. If you Choose a Power Weapon DO NOT give him one of the Flamers as it will cost you an Attack.
-1x Blood Claw with a Plasma Pistol [See Above]
-2x Flamers this is your best choice, they are Infantry Killers not Tank Hunters and with a BS of 3 the Melt-Gun will miss half the time.
-11x Blood Claws with Bolt Pistol and Close Combat Weapon, use them like the Chainsaw wielding Ferrets they are, find something soft and squish and hack it into little chunks. On a Assault they will get FOUR Attacks [That comes to almost 60 Attacks] and of you give them the Wolf Priest they should hit with around 30-40 Attacks.

Skyclaw Assault Pack
-Give them a Wolf Priest with a Jump Pack [As seen Above]
-Follow all the same rules as with the Blood Claws, but you gain One with the Mark of the Wolfen, he is the one that should get the Flamer.
Go with the Power Weapon here and with the MotW with the Flamer you will get a possible 40+ Attacks on a Assault of which if you are assaulting 1d6+3 of them are Rending.

I hope this Helps
