Many of the females I know in my life worry a lot. They tend to express this by venting for varying extended periods, some more than others, but then they can be okay 15 seconds to several hours later. Wondering if any of you with a fair amount of women experience have any tips for when it's the right time to listen or when it's the right time to give input? I feel like I get a good grip on it for a while then next thing you know I'm choosing the wrong option, and that's after being with the current GF for 3+ years. It's like they almost want me to choose men

What tends to happen in my experience is that women go worry worry and the man in their life gives them some answers to their problems.

They are not looking for answers, they are looking for sympathy and emotional support.

On the whole, try not to give any input. Just listen and do the "there, there, I'm sure it will be all right" kind of thing.

After a while the worrier may stop worrying and ask for some ideas. Then you might offer a possible solution.

They are mental. There is no hope. Look at the stuff they willingly expose themselves too. Wimmins Magazines, Beauty Adverts, comparing themselves to Screen Stars. The whole half of the species is utterly, irrevocably insane!

I try not to offer solutions since it's apparently a crime worse than murder Sometimes my practical side gets the better of me, but other times when I just sit there and listen (and listen... and listen...) I get in trouble for not being helpful. I wish they had an emotional "off" switch.

This is very true, they are a weak minded and physically pathetic species, prone to hysterical outbursts.

Unless I am talking to a devout monotheist such as a muslim, at which point i am sickened by misogyny in all of its forms and they are easily as capable as men at any task.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Seriously, sometimes women do babble about stupid crap thats really tedious. They may do so about stuff that doesnt seem important to you, that doesnt mean its not important to them.

On the flip side, guys often think women care about tedious sports trivia, the HP & torque of cars they'll never drive, the benefits of 64 bit vs 32 bit OS's etc etc.

Honestly, its unlikely you'll ever figure it out- not everyone is compatible in that way. Relationships can be complex, expecting a simple answer is something thats eluded mankind for all of history

All day, erry day.

or when it's the right time to give input?

When you're specifically asked for it.

Warboss has the way of it. Whats really cool is, when you get old, you get deaf. Just practice "mm" "mm" at regular intervals. You'll find you can do all kinds of things while they drone on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on...

When you occasionally just can't take it any more and the urge to shout "woman shut your pie hole!" just calmly tell them to hold that thought, run to the restroom and read a mag you have secreted away for a few minutes. It will work wonders. Works good for kids too although you have to be careful because they'll sometimes follow you.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

From being a life-long nerd I've learned when to talk about hobby things and when not to. I default to not and only do if someone cares. I tend to have friends I talk to about music, friends I talk art with, friends I play certain games with, friends I play other games with and friends I socialize with and I'm actually close to who get a small amount of everything. People aren't worth the words if they're just going to ignore them. I kind of feel like I'm holding back on her behalf sometimes (which she claims she doesn't want me to do, but then gets upset if I unload so extremely difficult to balance again) and I wish she'd return the favor. We can talk about it but that just seems to fix it for a day or two. I care about her immensely but lord can it get irritating.

I have to agree with Warboss too, but Frazzled and I see one point differently. I've been married for 7 years, with the love of my life for 12, and been her best friend for almost 20. I have to say that it's the easiest and most comfortable relationship I've ever had but also the most challenging. Being a friend means that you honestly listen to another person, not "mmm-hmm" your way out of a conversation. It's a bad habit I've been guilty of before and while I do have hearing loss, it's no excuse to being the vent to your lady-friend's concerns. She'll love you more for it if you're honestly attentive to her and if you find it difficult to do so, it might not be a sustainable relationship.

Edited for context.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Ha why pay when you need that money for your attorney..

But seriously I wish I had known when I first arrived on this planet, that when someone/woman is whinging you should just listen and not give a suggestion so they can fix the problem and stop whinging.. Oh the problems avoided..
