Either Space Marines, or Orks Id think. Both come in the AOBR box set, and even though its price has gone up alot since its release, its still barely a good deal. Space Marines have smaller numbers but Orks you can build pretty much ALL their vehicles from broken toys

cheapest army, that is 100% GW product, and thus fully tournament legal:

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

this is priceless!
i tried typing this before but my computer wouldnt let it send, i think, so sorry beforehand if it doubleposts.

i was thinking space marines would be the cheapest since you can just beef them up with wargear and thunderhammers and such as well as convert the simple space marine set into almost anything in the army that doesnt have termie armor, and maybe jetpacks would be hard.

i was also thinking of molding molding models i dont know how expensive or time consuming this would be, or if it would work very well, but it seems to be a simple way to save cash. i have seen a few articles about it on dakka but they all mold little pieces and i don't know if it would work as well on a space marine body for example. i would think it would be legal as long as you didnt try to sell the models, but i could be wron

you can build a legit 1000 point marine army out of 2 battleforce boxes and an HQ blister pack... will run you around $150.

chuck in a few heavy support choices, like predators / vindicators / land raiders, and you can be at 1500 points for around $250.

Well, if you want a cheap army, you should go for the one with the highest point-cost per <insert the currency you use here>.

For example, a box of 10 Orks costs x, and each Ork costs y points per model, then take x/<amount of Orks> times y = <Currency used> per Point/model.. uh.. something like that. *shrug*

I'd say Space Marines/Chaos Space Marines have a very good point/currency value, as it's not twice the price for 10 SM/CSM (rather something like.. uh.. it's summer break, I can't do proper maths as I'm turned off. 280 SEK for 10 CSM/SM 180 SEK for 10 Orks)... and... a SM/CSM costs about twice as much as an Ork, ishly.. Almost three times as much.. Well, there it is.

Oh, Khorne Berzerkers would be my guess. Spam 'em and get a Chaos Lord, and BANG! You has an army that is lethal, cheap-ish, slashy and.. Khorny. I better stop writing before I confuse myself or anyone else any more. My severe appoligies for my off-mode mind-writingly ishynessyness.

Buy everything secondhand off eBay.

My recent Tyrands purchasing campaign has netted me a nice army of 50% of retail.

It's all built and quite nicely painted -- I'm stripping it anyway because I need to refit it to the standards of Hive Fleet Kielbasa.

The point is you can probably get an SM army for under half price because so many people buy them and abandon them later.

The AoBR set is a so awesome start if you combine forces with a pal and buy two -- you take the SMs and he takes the Orks.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Brilliant.

@OP: I'd say Space Marines. Lots of points, not many models.
