In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

I'm no Khador expert, but since Drago is effectively a Berserker that costs more, why take him in a non-Vlad list instead of a regular, cheap Berserker?

Hits harder, hits (much) easier, and shreds infantry pretty well with its imprint and chain attack? He's certainly a lot more than just an expensive 'Zerker. Certainly, Bloodbath does some beautiful things under Unearthly Rage.

The list looks good to me, although I'm a bit leery of fielding Karchev without at least three warjacks to maximize UR and Tow. I'd personally drop one or both Ternions for a Destroyer or Devastator, although it's really down to taste.

That's what I was thinking

I used to have a Kodiak in there, but I want to maximize Karchev's limited focus AND still provide some cover for my advancing army (blizzards from the Ternions).

My plan is to activate the Arcantrik Turbine (gain 1 focus), allocate 1 focus to Beast (so he can charge), spend 2 focus for Tow, and spend 3 focus for Unearthly Rage (so total of 6 focus used). I won't allocate any focus to Drago since he can already charge for free.

Thanks for the feedback!

Doesn't unearthly rage allow all jacks in his battlegroup to charge without spending focus?

Why the focus on Beast for charging?

Nope, UR just gives autoboosted attack and damage rolls. His feat allows free charging, as well as pathfinder and a change of facing beforehand. The rest of the time, you need to pay for it (barring a 100 point game, where you can squeeze in Vlad or Sorscha).

Tow is an upkeep spell. You should generally keep it up all game, unless you need the extra focus for your jacks. While Sidearms can occasionally be useful instead, I generally find that if Karchev needs the higher defense things are already going horribly wrong. Thus, you get an extra focus to play around with. Enough to either feed another 'jack or make Beast hit extra hard (never a bad thing, tbh).

A final bit of musing regarding Karchev's focus efficiency and multitudes of warjacks. If the Koldun Lord still has the free focus ability (I think he does, but my book is in my car atm, and I haven't fielded him or the Chev much since the field test) you might consider bringing one along to keep your 'Jacks topped off. Essentially turns your 5/6 focus caster into a 6/7.

He still has powerbooster but he can only allocate to a jack that has no focus. So it would be going to Drago if he doesn't allocate anything.

Depending on the target, two focus to Beast with a good charge line means your opponent is picking up a unit of infantry with Murderous. I've had Beast go through a unit of TFG on their minifeat like they weren't even there.

Oh, I know. Just was discussing him as a possibility if you're fielding 3+ jacks.

As for Murderous on Beast, it's largely unneccessary with Karchev due to UR. While 4D6 at MAT 7 can occasionally be handy if you're gunning for someone like Cain or Deneghra, it's overkill on everything else.
