Does anyone know a good substitute for the "water effects" that GW sells and other, similar stuff from other companies? I need to make some water for a model, but I'm not paying $25 for a huge thing of water effects that I'll probably never use. One thing I heard was that Acryllic Gel Medium works well. Does anyone have experience with this?

For really small projects (puddles and such) just use several layers of gloss varnish, it works a charm.

Otherwise look into hobby stores that cater to railway enthusiasts, they usualy have cheaper terrain materials.

I don't know the price in USA, but Vallejo Still Water is about the same and cheaper.

Woodland Scenics "Water effects"
Noch "Wassereffekt" are both the same product and cheaper as well.

I haven't used either. The last product I used for a water effect is no longer available (Liquid glass). It was brilliant stuff but ever-so-slightly bad for you.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Ya woodland scenics makes good fake water. it will run around $19.99 US but worth it.

It drys crystal clear. you can also add inks to give it some color but otherwise, ya clear.

You can also consider a two-part epoxy gel, generally sold in a double-barreled syringe. These will all have varying clarities, dry times, smoothness, etc. You may want to do a few spot tests before commiting to one.
