okay so, paint scheme (so far)

Paint:

1. I use mechanite red, and then baal red wash on the red areas, I need a "not mixed" red or deep orange to highlight with, ideas?

2. Also, I'm thinking of picking up some brass tubing and making my tanks and such more steampunk-y. Obviously I probably shouldn't leave these plain brass, but am having a problem finding a metallic "brass" paint. Am I supposed to use yellow, and then thincoat bronze overtop or what?

3. In a trade, I got a sentinal that seems to have been sprayed by some sort of textured metallic/black paint, or perhaps the paint melted the plastic slightly, point being the model gained a surface texture similiar to old cast iron, it turned out pretty awesome, I'll try to get a good picture (my camera is nowhere near good enough) but I was curious if anyone has any ideas as to what this is?

conversions:

1. I was planning on perhaps using wargamefactory zombies with robotic parts attached as my conscripts, mechanicus "Forsaken" (basically people with botched or rejected mechanical implants) But haven't been able to find a source of appropriate bits, ideas?

2. What bases are rough riders supposed to be on? ive seen them on 40mm ones, and square "biker" ones, I'm assuming the squares

1) by "not-mixed" do you mean you'd prefer to not have to mix two or more colors yourself?
Well... I'd say the obvious answer is "Blood Red".

2) try the vallejo or repear masters range - they have some great 'brass' colors.

3) my guess is that it was either primed dirty OR it had been stripped of paint once before with perhaps too harsh a stripper.

----

1) try ebay... they have bits stores for just about everything now. I don't know off hand of any specific to your needs though.

2) check out some of the 'base' companies, like secret weapon, iron halo, or back 2 base x... I think dragon forge is another that does bike/cavalry bases. Here is just one example:

I love your color scheme so far by the way...

Bikers are tosuppose to be on the snowboard style base.

Normally next up on the list from mech red would be blood red or red gore. I have always used mech as the base for red gore though and I cannot remember if it is darker or lighter, blood is lighter.

I would hitup the metalics with a black wash and then re highlight.

For whites to make them look clean I always use a base coat of space wolves blue and then use white. You can also use a grey paint but I find it looks dirty.

More tubing would make it look more archaic. And more is always better right?

I like the idea, are you going to freehand the admech logo on the top?

Maybe if you just did the gear? It would give the idea of the logo without having to do it.

I could try to do the inner circle.

cool part is the hatch is already gear shaped so I sort of just painted it in

I tried blood red, it didn't really "show up" on top of the mechanite, is there a brighter red, I think blaze orange might be going too far:

Did a little more detail on the chimera: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/115589-test%20baint%20chimera%20details.html

Mech red is suppose to be a foundation paint so I think in their colour scaling they expect you to paint a base colour over it like blood or gore and then highlight from there. Perhaps if you have it a red gore wash and then highlighted with blood?
