Hey all, so recently I fell in love even more with Death guard and decided to make a complete swap over to them, so I went out and bought my 1k plague marine army and all the required paints. I am following the guide of this guy Latro_ on Warseer because he posted a log that is incredibly fast and looks amazing (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3221179),

However I am having a bit of a problem figuring out what exactly I need to do with the foundation paints and the watering down aspect. I have never really been consistent with watering down my paints, and for this i'm really serious since I want to work my hardest on this army. I have a hard time trying to figure out what exact ratio I should be doing for basecoats over the chaos black primer, and how to keep that ratio continually the same each time I add water on my pallet.

Also, since I am using rhinos for every troop, I will be painting tanks, and I am having a hard time also figuring out how watered down the foundation paints need to be for that, or if it would just be better to buy the games workshop spray gun.

So, can anyone give me some tips? thanks a lot!

Do you want to water paint down to make a wash? or just to go on thinner? I usully paint all paints right out of the pot, I rarely water anything down, you just have to pay attention and don't let it go on thick. But, you could always just use a wet brush before you dip it in the paint.

the way I did my death guard is I prime them white, then paint on rotting flesh, followed by a wash of devlan mud, then a wash of thraka green, and then when that's all done I'll go back over it with a very light drybrush of rotting flesh to pick out the highlights a little.

Basically, my largest concern is if I need to water down my Gretchin Green foundation paint basecoat that goes over the chaos black because of the fact the guide(s) im following are sort of geared at painting fast, and applying the Gretchin Green basecoat on the models with a tank brush. I'm just afraid this may cause loss of detail though.

Also, looking at your website, I now remember where I saw those from, you were the guy who won the "Write a Whats New Today Post" competition, awesome!

I have seen some of the better painters mix some distilled water and either "Future floor polish" or air brush thinner for acrylic paints at about 4:1 with a couple drops of "flow aid".
Then they just dip the brush in the mix just enough to get wet and not a big drop and then into the some of the paint on the pallet.
Seems to stay consistent for me and keeps the paint out of the ferrule or at least makes it easy to clean up (I am not the "better painters" but willing to copy them...).
There is no "right" way just find a way that you can keep consistent. The rest is just experience and practice.

I,like Necros,am curious as to your reason for watering down your paint.

If it's simply for basecoat, really all you have to do is insure your paints not going on to thick.

Aside from that, good choice with Death Guard,it's a great army to paint/convert and play (be even better when a decent Legions codex comes out).

The pictures in the Warseer link are pretty cool,but...before you place brush to mini..have a look around at various Death Guard armies, get some ideas from the various styles you see.

You can see some pretty cool stuff here in Dakkas Gallery, plus you should check out Legio Morbidus on Bolter and Chainsword.

Good luck spreading the rot.
