Subject: Getting back to WM / Hordes, some questions
|

Tea-Kettle of Blood

Hello all, since 8th edition Fantasy is shapping out to be a crappy edition, I'm looking forward to getting back into WM / Hordes for my medieval(esque) toy soldier fix.
Now, I got into WM when the game first came out, used to play with Cygnar and wasn't a half bad player if I say so myself, collecting a few best faction medals and even some tournament wins!
Now I started looking into it again and I noticed that a new edition of Prime has been released, but no new edition of Hordes yet...
So, since I'm planning on getting a Legion force for Hordes, but since most of the people on my playgroup only have WM armies, how do you guys play WM vs Hordes matches in this environment?
Is there a playtest rulebook (and unit cards) for Hordes mk2 that my week google-fu failed to turn up?
Thanks in advance for the replies.
Also, with the new point system, whats the new model for a medium sized game, say the equivalent to the Mk1 500 pts game of old?

There is, indeed, a playtest rulebook and cards. I'm not sure that they're still available on the PP website, but I think you can still find them here. I believe the decks of cards for the Horde factions are coming out at on the 7th of July, so there's only a couple of weeks to wait until the stats of things are finalised.
Hope this helps!
Edit: On the points question - I think 35 points would be about the same scale as an old 500 point game.

Both systems are still as compatible as they were in Mk. I. So there's no problem in playing WM vs. Hordes.

All the test rules & cards are still available from PP Hordes page - HERE.

35pts would be the 500pt equivalent.
Hordes MkII is about a month away now.
We've been playing H vs WM on a regular basis. Pretty much we use the Warmachine rules for everything, except the Fury stuff is as playtest.
Looks like you got links for the playtest and cards.

Looks like I'm a bigger idiot then I thought, but in my defense, the PP site is blocked at work, so I couldn't check it.
Thanks for all the help guys.

Just an fyi, but in my TOTALLY UNBIASED opinion, Legion is extremely OP. More so ( IMO) than any other Hordes army OR Warmachine army. Playing against them, they seem to have effectively no drawbacks whatsoever. Unlike, say for example, Cryx (my faction of choice), Legion can take big, expensive models with no fear whatsoever of losing them, due to the very ( IMO) overpowered feats that allow you to (for example) COMPLETELY heal all your big beasts of any damage, at the cost of putting a very miniscule amount of damage on said warlock, who (like all Hordes locks) can simply transfer any damage she takes onto her massive and fully healed damage sponges. Further compounded by the fact that said massive beasts have an insane threat range, and (against my own army of Cryx, which I would say is much weaker in ranged than in melee) does not have to fear getting charged before they are able to strike, whereas they have a serious ranged threat in their best beasts' spray attacks. All of this is my own opinion (and also true) and is in no way biased (F*** Legion). Also Typhon is the single most overpowered thing in any game, ever, period. IMO. (But seriously...?)
Anyway yeah, Warmachine is a fun game and is certainly faster overall than a comparable game of either version of Warhammer. There's also almost NO cleaning work to be done on the models, the one thing I loathe the most about any GW product I've ever bought. I got a boner when I saw how clean the parts to my Terminus were.

MasterDRD, I'd simply suggest you need to play a bit more and get a better grip on how Cryx really works. Absylonia is a good warlock but that doesn't mean she's such an OP as you think. "The grass is always greener..." you know.

Her feat is pretty crazy though. Easiest way of dealing with it is to focus entirely on one Warbeast at a time - use throws and slams and terrain if possible to keep other things out the way, and just keep pounding on one thing until it's dead. If only one of her warbeasts are heavily damaged at a time, then the player may be less inclined to use Absylonia's feat and, if she does, she'll only be healing one heavily injured warbeast.
A friend of mine is looking at getting Absylonia soon, so.. um, if anyone else has any ideas for dealing with her, I'd really like to hear 'em!

There is no such thing as an OP faction in WM / Hordes!
TBH, I already had a few Legion models that I bought way back and I just sent an order to Maelstrom yesterday that consisted of Absylonia, Rhyas, a Raek, Stryders + UA, a Deathstalker, a Forsaken and a Sheppard. I also intend to buy a Typhon, a Scythean and Thagrosh, but that is for the future.
My goal now is to make 2 separate 35 point lists to see how it goes:
Absylonia
- Carnivean
- Angelius
- Raek
- Shredder
- 6x Striders
- Strider UA
- Strider Deathstalker
- Forsaken
- Shepherd
Rhyas
- Carnivean
- Angelius
- Seraph
- Shredder
- 6x Striders
- Strider UA
- Strider Deathstalker
- Shepherd
(This list is 1 point above the 35 limit but I have no idea of what to replace, probably remove the Shredder and replace the Sheppard with a Forsaken)
As soon as my order arrives I have a few games lined up against Cryx so I'll tell you how it goes...
I've also read the rules last night and I'm really liking how Mk 2 is shifting the focus back into Warjacks and away from infantry, IMO that is where this game stands appart from the competition and is nice to see PP acknowledge it, back in the Prime days I had a Caine all infantry list that just demolished anything that it came up against and it just felt wrong, glad that that is alot harder to acomplish now.
