Okay, the Death God Incarnate named Nightbringer dies to one hit from a force weapon. Nightbringer really does not enjoy getting punched by Typhus (would you on 4+, roll leadership, 360 pt model explodes).

My question is this: there are rules for C'Tan that state that if they suffer instant death from a Wraithcannon, instead they just take a wound with no Invulnerable save. Does this rule extend to all instant death, now? I have skimmed through the FAQ's and Errat and I don't see it.

Playing chess doesn't require skill, it just requires you to be good at chess...

...that would be a skill

You already know the answer. No.

There is no rule that exempts C'tan from -Instant Death-.

So in tournaments expect them to pop. In local play, change the rule.

Well, you didn't see it because it's not there.

The rule is clear, it only works against a Wraithcannon and nothing else.

TBH, that's not what you need to worry about though, it's Sternguard with Hellfire rounds. Wounding on a 2+ with a 4+ save = .

30 toxic Hormagaunts give 90 attacks on the charge, hitting on 5+, rerolling their 1's, wounding on 4+.

yes the gaunts can drop in, then not get to assault, whereas the sternguard will drop and kill the nightbringer.

Just realized that Marbo would actually have a pretty decent chance of downing a Ctan by himself, if you could get him in position.

And by "chance", you mean that Marbo would Demo Charge the C'tan, stab him with a knife between the legs, and run off laughing into the jungle?

Yes...yes, he has a chance.

basically what I do, I use the Gargantuan Creatures defensive capabilities from Apocalypse which breaks down to:

- immunity to psychic powers that don't have a given strength value
- are immune to instant death
- attacks that can in one way or another remove the Gargantuan Creature from play through any means instead cause D3 wounds
- and last of all sniper weapons, poisoned weapons and the like can only wound them on a 6

I have had very little in the way of objections with using these rules in my games. any person who disagreed eventually let me use them (or was like 10 years old) with the obvious argument that these rules protect the C'Tan from attacks that would be overpowered against them. after all, as far as I can tell he's the most expensive induvidual in 40K.

Hive Tyrants can cost more. Fully kitted out, you could spend 430pts on one. 420, if you skip the Toxin Sacs.

And he'd suck.

A standard librarian at Strength 4 is unable to Wound Nightbringer or the Deceiver in CC and since you have to be able to wound it before using the psychic power then I don't see this as a big issue. Furiouso Librarians of course have a chance at Strength 6 rolling a 6 to wound.

Hormagaunts can't even hit Nightbringer because of etheric tempest.

Sternguard are probably your best bet still.

Also for blood angels, both a regular libby and a furioso libby can use sanguine sword and have s10 force weapons ....

The only thing is the Libby Dread can not be strenght 10 and use the Force weapon on the same turn.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

Hmm. How many wounds does a Nightbringer actualy have? because a hilarious way to kill him would be death by Sucking. Mycetic spore the doom of malan'tai next to him, 3D6 ld test "Ow my soul" then slam him with cataclysm?

5 wounds is nothing to a Sternguard Squad.

20 shots, 13.3 hit, 11.1 wound and then 5.5 unsaved wounds inflicted. And that's just the Average roll!

Doom in a drop pod would probably do little to the Nightbringer, High average of 11 rolled on 3d6 causes 1 wound that he rolls against with a 4+ invulnerable save. Not to mention you're now within assault range of him and his attacks ignore invulnerable saves and a single wound will cause ID in Doom.

I've seen sternguard drop pod in, or drive up and just shoot NB to death. It got to the point where my friend playing Necron had to hide NB behind a monolith hoping the Sternguard wouldn't have LOS to him. Kind of funny when you think of the lore and then see a "God" hiding behind another unit, hoping not to get shot.

how? you can only use Gift of Chaos at the start of your turn so logically he'll just get muderlized. you haven't been using it whenever you wanted have you?

The Furioso Libby is S7 on the charge when using the force weapon if inside the furious charge bubble of a Sanguinary Priest, so it would only need to roll a 5+ to wound in this particular case.

Providing they pass leadership to assault the c'tan.

A small hope, I know, but still a chance for failure.

I believe dreads are fearless so they dont have to take a Ld test to assault the C'Tan.

Dreads are not Fearless, but do not have a Leadership Value, so cannot ever be made to take Ledarship Tests or Morale tests iirc. (The Libbys powers being the exception of course)

Fearless also doesn't affect the test required for assaulting the c'tan.
