On Chaos Knights are lances or Ensorcelled Weapons, which always increases strength by one and bestows magical attacks.
And how do these options affect their tactics.
Also take into account that Lances cost five extra points.

I've usually seen Chaos Knights with Ensorcelled Weapons, which seems like a better bet this edition. Lances make you lose consistent strength bonus' and magical attacks in turn for a single round of S6 (which often times is overkill).

Well, considering Chaos Knights are probably not going to run through entire blocks in 8th you might as well just go for ensorcelled weapons.
The fact that you can only break ranks with 2 ranks and that people are probably taking MUCH bigger blocks means that you're going to need more staying power.
There may also be some goodies with magic weapons that I haven't seen yet.

Always weapons. The only time you want lances is if you know you will get the charge and break them on the charge.

Mhm.
That's why Chaos Knights are barely beaten by Blood Knights for the role of Best Heavy Cavalry. They're just as good in the consecutive rounds of combat after the first, unlike most other knights who rely to break them on the charge.
Always Ensorcelled Weapons.

I have never, ever seen lances taken at tournaments.
Magical weapons means no ward save from forest spirits, and you can hunt down those pesky etheral units (cairn wraiths).

I think I say this every time this discussion comes up, but don't forget that you actually have to pay for what is otherwise a swap with serious trade-offs. In 7th I think frenzied knights could go lance and shatter enemy units. In 8th you definitely want to keep killing in later turns, since stubborn is gonna lock them in. So yea, poop on the lances
