Im curious how its working out for you. Ive recently decided that I should be spending my points on troop spam rather than HQ spam. If mounted, the CCS cant do orders so beyond that I dont see a huge advantage to using them over vets, and in the end id rather have the scoring units.

I figure I must be missing something / thinking about it wrong though as it seems pretty popular.

CCS can issue orders while mounted, they just can't issue them to themselves.

Since you get BS4 guys with your CCS, taking meltas or plasmas is never a bad idea. My standard load-out is 2 meltas, vox and standard. Vox and standard allow them to be the supporting HQ they are supposed to be, while the two meltas give them a back-up role in case I face TONS of vehicles or something slips through my front lines.

I usually pack them with meltas and only take the vox if I'm using more then 2000 pts. Put them in a chimera and head for the enemy armour! It works well. If you use the vet troops and platoon command loaded with meltas and the odd demo charge in a couple of chimeras you'll soon be taking the enemy vehicles to pieces and the orders will help you tactically to eliminate those targets with higher toughness values or in cover! They aren't a must for Imp Guard but they are handy!

Only when they are mounted in Chimeras. If they are mounted in Valkyries, Vendettas, any of the FW transports, Or any Super-heavy they cannot give orders either.

OP: the anwer to why you use CCS instead of Vets for your Special Weapon spam is because you can effectively get an extra free gun. That is to say Vets are 20 points more expensive and only get 3 special Weapons, CCS get 4 Special weapons and at 20 points less.

I like special weapons, ergo I like PCSs. The thing is, though, that while a PCS is cheaper than a SWS, CCSs are more expensive than both. As such, I take more SWSs rather than a second CCS.

The only other thing that a CCS has to offer is more orders, but, as mentioned, I love PCSs, so I have plenty of orders to go around. As for the better orders, I haven't really found myself with too many of the same kind of unit shooting at the same target all within 12" of a single CCS. Plus, I'm somewhat ambivalent on orders in general, so I wouldn't take the squad just for the orders.

And fluffwise, 2 CCSs hurts my brain and would be too tough for me to work in properly in my battle reports. Perhaps if I had two full companies (as in, 180 other dudes on the battlefield), I'd consider putting in a second, but otherwise, I'll pass.

I like a 3x plasma + plasma pistol + medic. Expensive, but dead killy.

I only use 1, though.

Da Bigg Island Of Hawaaaghii !

i've fielded an all plasma packing CCS ( 4 plasma guns & CC w/ plasma pistol)

works well, just hope for no 1's & your opponent not making those inv/cover saves.

Yeah I dont doubt its effectiveness, Ive used 4x plasma 1x plasma pistol CCS before to great effect... it just seems like with all our other big boom options that when it comes down to putting boots on the ground it would better to invest the points in getting scoring units.

Im sure it greatly depends on the rest of your list though. For example, (even though theyre not UBAR) I run with 2 storm trooper squads with a plasma pistol and 2x plasma guns that I drop on elite infantry... so maybe they kind of take on the role that a lot of people are using the CCS for.

This man is asking about spam. He's not asking about two meltas or plasmas. When I run any ccs or vet squad I'm maxing out plasma. 3 for vets 4 for ccs and a pistol to boot. Overkill? Yeah. But when my opponent brings two deamon princes and a greater deamon or a trygon a mawlok and a swarm lord in a 1500 point game, I need to make sure those guys go down hard the second they get close. You may think it's overkill, but when you pick up nine plasma dice you're opponent is going to be sweating. Yes you will roll 1's.. But you have 4-5 guns, that squad will last. And when everyones plasma is fried, have them do something else!

I would rather get the rapid fire second dice and pick up nine than have five melta shots. It's guard after all, they're not guaranteed to all hit even with bs4.

I like to have the ccs with these guns because I can sneak them along behind a tanks vunerable rear, so when a term squad or obliterator or zoanthroape pops up, it has serious lifespan doubts. I also love to throw vet squads in chimeras and drive them around shooting hot plasma at people. Five firing points is killer.
I think a ccs or vet squad is one of the ore potent underrated units in this editions IG.

Underrated

CCS and veterans was the first thing people picked up on when the codex hit. Everyone knows they are awesome. (or at least I thought everyone knew before this thread) If anything is underrated, I think it is the usefulness of platoons

@OP: You need an HQ. The CCS is the best HQ by far. CCS orders are all very nice, special weapons spam is very nice, BS 4 is very nice. I would however fill up with vets instead of another CCS unless you really feel that you need more orders

No doubt the CCS is some of the best special weapon spam in the game. I would mount them in a Chimera and load up heavy weapons, that way they can zip around the battlefield pumping plasma into and ordering troops wherever they go. They're expensive that way (closing in on 200 pts, I believe, depending on what weaponry you give the commander), but they never fail to improve the efficiency of an army.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?
