So, I thought it'd give a nice look to my army to have a horse mounted command squad. What I was thinking is that it grants them the mobility of Rough Riders, and they could get the horses for 10 points (As that's the point value for additional Rough Riders in the IG codex) What do you guys think? Is this fair point value wise?

I think it'd be fun. An entirely horse mounted IG cavalry regiment would be sweet.

In friendly games, anything goes. I'd say between 10-15 points for a horse would be perfectly fine.
Out of intrest, is your army WWI themed, or more napoleonic?

I wouldnt have a problem with someone doing that.

It's actually not a historically themed army. If anything I have a mild Napoleonic/Prussian leaning with massed ranks of infantry lining up in nice happy rows, but mostly its a standard IG unit. The reasons I wanted to do horse mounted command squad is:

a) I kind of wanted it to have that Romaticized feel when on display.
b) I didn't like the way that standard Imperial Commander models looked, and decided horses would make them look really badass.

In my opinion, horses make imperial guard armies look stupid. If they were armored, it would be one thing, but in reality they would just be shot faster than you can say "Boltgun".

In reality the whole IG would quickly die to tailored viruses, but it wouldn't make an exciting tabletop game.

yes! the totally is! but at 115 points (+15 for Lances), can't give orders with only a few minor bonuses, well, you'd need to talk to your opponent about all that because the new Codex: Imperial Guard made everything better or cheaper (and sometimes both)

If it were possable to make an entire Mounted regiment i would so play Guard.

Play it as counts as in a Chimera; as long as you inform you opponent, and you hold a tight formation (eg a movment tray), that's not that unreasonable.

Btw, Kilcrazy. While those model kits do look epic I don't think I'll be going with them. My current plan for making rough riders is to just buy some Empire horse units and glue Cadian torsos and arms to the legs. Though, I was considering getting an Empire General as the supreme commander guy. If he was properly painted, would he look too out of place with an IG army?
