Hi guys, I'm playing an army with 20 tactical infantry and a captain. I want to take a standard bearer, but I just want him for show.

my question is, is he affected by WYSIWYG?

Raw: yes.

IME: just say he's for show and you're ok. The confusion arises if you have more than one SB and one is actually carrying a standard and the other isn't. THEN you might have problems.

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Every model in your army is affected by WYSIWYG.

That's kind of the point of it.

Having said that, as Lordhat said, so long as you point out at the start that he's just for show, most players won't have a problem with it.

Meanwhile, I edited the title of the thread. Getting 'creative' with the language filter is not acceptable. I wouldn't recommend doing it again.

Actually, I think that'd be perfectly legal. There aren't any options for standard bearers in a tac squad, so as long as you say to your opponent, "hey, my tac squad's got a flag, but he's just a marine, FYI," there shouldn't be any problem.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

on a slightly parallel viewpoint, how would a standard bearer in a command squad be considered to be armed? like the rest of the unit?

I would be a sad panda to think that you can't model standards on units unless it is a piece of wargear or an option. Many of the kits for SM have a standard included which can be attacked to the top of the backpack. It's like saying a daemon prince can't have skulls piled up on a heap a top his armor. All you need to do is let your opponent know in advance.

Which isn't what he was talking about.

Yea hes talking about the guys walking around holding a giant flag with cool stuff on it.

Again as stated, since tactical squads dont HAVE a standard, there wouldnt be any problem as long as he has the appropriate weapons loadout. But as always, anything you model to look cool, let your opponent know about it so they arnt wondering what the hell the guy is doing in there

I have an awesome standard bearer i converted from an old edition of the SM command squad. Great thing about the model is that he is holding a boltgun (not pistol) in one hand so he would sit quite nicely in a tactical squad like you described.

I use a chaos Icon bearer as a regular spikymarine. I just tell them he's nothing and that the banner is just a large CCW.

Totally depends.

Now, that's not cool becuase the spikymarine squad can have an icon.

Giving a tac squad a standard is different because it can't possibly be any of the wargear standards.

A new day, a new time zone.

I had some extra standard bearer bits, so for variety I equipped one of my assault marines with it. i just make a point of saying, 'he's just got that to look cool, it doesn't do anything.'
