Quick question here. I was told by a friend that if you are to enter a tournament, you cannot base your units with non-model basing terrain. For example, I used Galeforce nine Marsh blend hobby scenics as well as some fake moss I bought from an art store. Would the fake moss be allowed in a tournament?

Don't see why not. I was using scavenged silica sand and cork to base my models at AdeptiCon a few years back, and got nothing but compliments.

Use whatever you want on the base, as long as it doesn't give you an advantage in game.

I can't imagine any tournament (or person) having a problem with non-game impacting base decoration, and if they did, you should run for the hills, because that's going to be the least frustrating problem with the people.

I always operated under the idea that bases were free game when it came to doing what you want with them, as far as adding sand, cork, small stones and what not.

And I have never has a problem in all my years of gaming.

the only things i've seen that cause problems are rediculously high terrain, like hills, stones, etc.... and larger bases...

You love it you slags!

Just don't put a brick wall in front of the model.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

Most of the time you will see rules in tournaments that say that models have to be properly based, and what they mean is that they need to be on the correct sized base.

You can decorate the bases anyway you want to.

I have never heard such a absurd rule.

It's absurd because how is the TO to know if the sand/flock/foliage/pebbles on your base is GW materials?

All GW do is bulk buy from the same supplier as Woodland Scenics and pack it in smaller packs with a higher price.

Much like the Green Stuff and the superglue.

It's also such a petty idea. What's coming next? You can't use any dice except GW dice? You can't pay for your ticket except with cash you received in change from buying something in a GW shop?

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Never heard of anything like that whatsoever. I think there was a misunderstanding on someone's part. It would be stupidly absurd, unenforceable, and counterproductive.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

The few things i would be concerned about are:

-Not changing the size of the model as a whole in such a way that Lines of sight to the model will be affected.
-The 5th ed rules state that any cover placed on your base is purely decorative, so you can have that brick wall if you want, but obviously it wont give you cover
-I was told by GW staff when i asked that you can enlarge bases (slightly id imagine) but not shrink them beyond the official size. Dunno how true this is though.

Regarding what you asked about using non GW materials i heard somewhere that for any conversions atleast 70%(75?)% of the materials used need to be GW. However a situation where you are being asked where you got your flock from seems simply insane!

I really wouldn't be concerned, I love basing things, some people really dont give it the time of day. And if you are going to do anything remtely interesting to your models you are going to need to shop outside of GW!

Or if a problem with where you got your flock or sand arises, you could always lie. Lying may not be ethical, but shame on whoever is kicking you out of a tournament for not using GW flock.
