Hi this thread is all about how to field, base and use all the nine Nazgul in games of War of the Ring.

Heres one of my favourite Nazgul, The Betrayer

The first Nazgll I am going to talk about is The Betrayer.
THe Betrayer has one of the best special rules of all the nine. his special rule is The Bane of Kings

Bane of kings: the Betrayer's formation must re-roll all faild hits in shooting or close combat attacks.

Also the Betrayer can be used in a Fallen Realms list and The Betrayer is 125 pts.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Only two of the Nazgul actually had any identity let alone personality. This is how Sauron wanted them.

I dont really like when GW tries to add to the canon of Middle Earth, even if the canon additions go no further than the miniatures game. Tolkien thought everything through in minuitae, his eldest son expanded on that and was in a creative partnership with his father for much of the creative work.
GW designers come along, they cant even get thier own IP to hold water and add crap to Tolkien's vision.

Anyway back to the miniatures. they look good, but I do with they had just stuck with Nazgul's #3 to #9, with an identifiable Khamul and some measure of personality to the Witch King.

Hi Orlanth, cheers for looking at my previous post, would you like me to put up a detailed description of the Witch King and Khumul The Easterling.
You are right GW did mess with Tolkien's view of the Lord of the Rings Nazgul, but also it gives each Nazgul more character and a sort of background to each of them.

I had my say, this doesnt affect the in game value of your tactica. I am sure many players will find the info useful. Evil side players need to choose their heroes with exceptional care due to points and availability discrepencies.

The second nazgul I will give its special rule is The Whitch King.

Shadow of Terror: All formations behind the Witch King automatically pass the at the double test.
The Witch King may be used in an Angmar list. the Witch Kings cost is 200pts.

Beast you promised us a review on how to use the Nazgul. So far you introduced one and showed the mini, now you have gone straight onto the next. You could be onto something if you do it right. Do a proper tactica, read the feedback as you go along then when you are done copy paste and write it up as a Dakka article. This will be useful for any Mordor players or new or undecided players (like me) who are thinking about getting into the game.

Meanwhile lets go back to the Betrayer.

Which armies do you recommend using him with?
Which units do you recommend him with?
Does he have any options or add ons, which to buy which to leave off and when.
Is he the specific answer to any particular hero of the West you normally have trouble against?
Winged beast, horse or foot, which is better, which is more cost effective?
does he have any specific weaknesses?
Does he cover over a weakness in the Mordor army?

You need to ask these questions and more of every Nazgul individually. You also need to look at Nazgul as a whole. Look at what Nazgul offer your army, talk about how many to take when and with what. etc etc.
Do a proper job and Dakka will thank you for it. LotR and WotR players need quality tacticas.

Ok, I will talk about when I have used my Betrayer, I delt out a total of 37 shot when I use him with my Easterling Archers, this is because I took advantage of the Betrayer's special rule. I also managed to to kill 3 and a half companies of Warriors Of Minas Tiroth in one shooting phase.
Personly I think that the Betrayer has one of the best rules out of all the nine nazgul.

The best army you could use him in is a Fallen Realms army, the best troops to put him with, is a shooting unit (the best are Easterling Archers as the have a shoot value of 4 which gives them 1 extra dice). So for example: 4 companies of Easterling Archers (thats 32 attacks plus their shoot value of 1 extra dice) and one Betrayer, they give out 12 succsesful shots, then they re-roll the 20 missed rolls and 17 hit, that is a total of 29 succsesful shots in one shooting phase.
