Ive just started playing BA a few months ago.converting my Ultramarines into Blood angels. I turned my 2 assault squads into 1 death company unit. is it too much?

10 SM
Jump packs
4 power weapons
1 power fist

with astorath the grim as my HQ leading them

First off, this should be in tactics, as it isn't a problem with the rules.

Second. I REALLY hope you dont build your army around this unit, as you ALWAYS want DC in transports to help negate rage. Now, your DC will be dragged around the board by their nose because you HAVE to move towards the closest enemy model. Astorath will be along for the ride. My advice, ditch the jump packs and buy a rhino.

Or, take a Stormraven. You can fit Astorath and 10 Jump Packless models into one!

I was thinking of that. but there is no sotrmraven model yet. I was thinking of buying a IG Valkyrie and doing some convertions because I also have a DC dread with 2 blood talons

I've seen 2 nice conversions of storm ravens in my FLGS using a valkarie plus a land raider. The rules for it are good but not amazing, it is after all only armor 12.
I'd put the DC in a rhino or land raider if you're feeling excessive, you can then dump them where you want them to be and hope they reap havoc before chasing land speeders for the rest of the game.

Oh, i've been toying with the idea of DC armed all with bolters... relentless ftw?

The only DC that should have bolters are ones with power fists.

Anything with a PW or CCW should have a Pistol. +1 Strength 5 (generally) attack in CC @ WS5 is a LOT better than one S4 attack at BS4. Bolters on the PF since they can't get a bonus attack anyway.

I'd take 10 DC Marines with one power fist, led by a Reclusiarch, and mounted in a Rhino.
Keep it cheap, plain, and simple.

I send them were I need them. Let the heavy weapons kill off armour thats why Im thinking a stormraven. so astorath the grim can still be in the unit. with the ability to attack when disembarking plus reroll hits + wounds and big A's +2 re-roll passed inv saves. Its just VERY point heavy. Thats my problem. If there worth the points. If i ditch the jump packs and take a Stormraven, I save 150pts for the packs so the stormraven would only cost 50pts difference. can add twinlinked plasma or las to solve the skimmer problems.

and if that doesnt work...I do have other units.

Here's a crazy idea.

Put that ten man unit in a drop pod. It is the preferred transport of crazed bloody thirsty warriors. First turn in enemy deployment zone. Never fails to be fun.

Well, I'd add a DC Dread in another Pod arriving also in 1st turn in the enemy deployment zone.

they cannot assault the turn they arive if I go drop pod.

I think im going to go with a stormraven, i get all its fire power and the transport with the assault vehicle rule.

No votes for a Land Raider?

But I do agree with the others... any transport is worth it so that you can control them. Jump Packs may be cool, but it takes the tactics right out of them. For you anyway, a savvy opponent will have a blast making them chase useless things around the board.

For my Death Company, if use them in a StormRaven.

If I'm using a Land Raider I'd much rather have Assault Terminators in it.

Drop pods mean they have to lose a section of their number if they even survive.

Rhinos get popped too easily.

I don't believe there's going to be a Stormraven Model...

All the stores have been making them from Valkyrie conversions and I do believe hearing from the store manager you have to convert to make it.

Heres a hint, they cant assault, so wouldnt your oponent want to kill them first turn? Dosnt that draw fire away from nastier things across the board, now moving at high speeds towards either him/her or objectives. The deathcompany, when built chep, are GREAT distractions, because if you dont deal with them quick, things start to get tied up in combat, and start dieing. USe DC as a distraction from your main force, but nothing else.

Im going to GW next week and im starting to think I should get more assault marines. the unit I posted above costs as much as 2 10man assault squads w/upgrades. as for astorath I removed his axe when i got him and put a sword in his hands so I was thinking of using him as a darker convertion of the sanguinor.

theres a pic of him in my gallery

If i go with the DC and use them as a "deathstar" unit as Iv hurd it called, if they chase something or killed off then there goes 25% my army. then my whole assault wave goes off the board and Im stuck defending.

One thing to remember too, a death company that is that strong is going to kill just about anything on the charge. That means your DC is going to be sitting out in the open during the next turn. If you cut the models down a little, it usually increases your survivability due to the fact that you are still in combat during your opponents shooting phase.

YMMV, but this is what I've had the best experience with. Overall I think the points can be better spent elsewhere for a competitive build, but I've played Blood Angels since 2e and it doesn't feel right playing without a Death Company.

Good Luck

I think im going to have a 9man DC with 1xpowerfist, lead by a HQ chaplain w/plasma pistol without jump packs in a landraider.

Holy jeez. 435 points? That's crazy. I don't have a single unit in my entire army that could cost that much!

And how dare you shame your ultramarines with curse of the red thirst?
