I've got a large number of those genestealers from the Macragge set. If you don't have them, you wouldn't know, but, their arms are way too long and the are unmovable. The probably stick out at least an inch from the model.

So, I was in a match the other day, and my opponent says that my genestealers aren't in coherency because the bases aren't close enough.....*hufff*

What would you say about this? Are my genestealers in coherency (even though their arms are huge and they can't be close together in anyway without touching)?

Well, yes. That was the problem. With their arms sticking so far out, they weren't within two inches of each other.

Turn them so they all face different directions. Also, don't play against this person.

Models in a squad have to be within 2 inches of one another. Those arms aren't that long, its quite possible to keep them in squad coherency.

The other person sounds well within his rights.

If he insists on coherency only using bases, make sure only bases apply to checking hits from templates and blast weapons. Can't have it both ways, after all.

Thats how you do it- from the base. templates and blasts only hit if they cover any part of the base, not model. Same with coherency, range for orders, measuring charges...

Are you measuring 2" from center to center? I've got those genestealers (or maybe I had them... anyway) and they work fine when measuring 2" from edge to edge of the base.

Riddle me this: what has four sides, moves twelve inches, and moved fourteen?

You do realise that for non vehicles, the model is essentially ignored for range and template/marker purposes? You're meant to do what you say to the base anyway.

I have a feeling his is is measuring center to center as well. You measure Edge to Edge ofc.

Yup. But if his opponent is unwilling to give any leeway with regard to models that are badly proportioned, he needs to be consistent about it.

No trying to sneak extra hits or center blasts off-centre, or try to squeeze extra guys into engagement range in an assault.

Yes, measuring center to center.Edge to edge makes the coherent. That's not a problem at all.

I guess that's what he meant. I was tired as hell, I was too lazy to argue with him. It was more of a "Suresure,whatever....*clumps models together*" sort of thing. I won anyway, so it wasn't a do-or die discussion

You do realise you can legally put blasts off center as well? You just have to have the hole entirely over the base.

For 25mm models this isn't a big deal, but it can make a lot of difference for 60mm models.

Well, don't do that then...

Measurement is always from the edge of the base.

Yes, but you can't put it over the body of a hormagaunt that's leaping forward from it's base - or a lunging genestealer.

Obviously several people in this thread.

They immediately began performing much better.

Yea the base is the model for anything but TLOS purpoces (blasts, coherency, area effect abilities, etc.).

If you beat him that badley I would assume that he was just whinning. Some people take whatever victory they can get even if it's a petty argument like what part of the base to measure to.

I rather doubt that - at least inasmuch as it has any relevance to the discussion. Forkbanger was the only one talking about it, although now we have people telling him it's simply wrong.
