This isn't really a rules question, per se, so here goes.

Is there any place where I can get guidelines or rules for using Grot Tanks in 40K besides buying Imperial Armor 8 - especially when I'm not certain that even answers this. IE is there an officially released PDF like for Armageddon formations? Are they just essentially the same as Killa Kans without CCW's?

What?

Grot Tanks, under RAW actually have an addendum specifically stating "Grot Tanks are an Elite choice in a regular Ork army that has at least one Ork Big Mek".

Grot Tanks really have no special rules that are over the top that would make me, personally, say "NO! You can't field those they're unbalanced!".

However, if you want to use them as counts as...someone suggested War Buggies or Killa Kans. Especially since the weapon options are the same as Killa Kans.

My god , he just wanted to ask if there is a legit linkable source so he can check out first without buying IA 8 just for the tanks.

Killa-kans is a very good counts-as. Frankly, I think they're more useful as kans.

Grot tanks have worse armour, are vulnerable to assault and cannot themselves assault, have a random movement distance (slightly better than walkers but random) and a passable invulnerable save (which only just makes up for the worse armour)

They're interesting and they're not actually bad but kans are decently dangerous in assault which makes them much more versatile, imo.

I would have to disagree there Scott.

They're useful as hell in their Fast Attack slot for the Dread Mob, since you can field quite a few of them as a kind of skirmish screen for your dreads. Add in a Kommanda Grot Tank and things get quite a bit more interesting.

You can field kans in the same slot for the same purpose and they're as survivable, they're dangerous to assault and can kill vehicles in CC. A 5pt saving does not compensate for the loss of cc ability.

In a normal ork army, I don't think they compare well to the other elite choices at all.

Probably not, but the vast majority of people who would use them would want them in a kan or gretchin themed army anyway.
