Hi all,

I've decided to have a stab at painting and have run into a problem.
I've read all the posts I can find on painting black, but I thought if I showed you what i've managed so far you might be kind enough to give me some tips.

Thanks in advance

Well if you dont paint the pants true black, it will look more natural. So basically lighten up the black with some grey to use as your "black" then if you further highlight with lightened blacks itll look more realistic. Usually its best to use at least 3 different colors to highlight with, but grots are pretty small. Good luck, and are those rouge traders or something?

Thanks King, i'll give that a go.
On the 4th grot (furthest on the right) are the hightlights too thick?

Embarrassingly they're from Space Crusade. I got it on eBay because I wanted a variety of minis.

Something that works OK for me then painting black:
1. start with a middle grey basecoat (Adeptus Battlegrey, for instance)
2. overall wash of thinned down Badab Black (1:1 wash/thinner ratio)
3. as many layers of thinned Badab Black in the recesses to arrive nearly to a full black color.

Yea that actually worls rather well, and is pretty easy to do too. I forget about washes for some damn reason lol. Just remember after washing, always do a re highlight as it will really get the paint job popping.
