Hi, I was recently given some metal grey knights and am ATTEMPTING to make/paint them. The problem is all my glues simply refuse to adhere to the metal, and even if they do the limb simply falls off after some time. The second problem is paint. The paint simply peels straight off when dry. Any help?

Well, you need to use super glue to glue metal miniatures, plastic glue won't cut it. If that still doesn't hold enough for you, you can try pinning the parts together. I'm not very good at it, but basically you drill a small hole into the pieces to join, and insert a small metal rod (Paperclip piece) before glueing. It will help the model hold together.
For painting, metal models pretty much have to be primed.

are you using "super" glue? cyanoacrylate should be listed in the ingredients. if you're using regular plastic glue (the kind that doesn't glue your fingers together), it doesn't work on metal. also, with metal (and resin FW) minis, it's a good idea to give them a bath before priming (which hopefully you're doing too). bathe them in soapy water (like dishwater soap) and then leave them overnight in a glass cup filled with 5 parts water and 1 part vinegar to get any mold release and oils off of the mini. the mini is now ready to superglue. then prime or at least base coat the mini with a spray FLAT paint. once you do that, the paint should stick on without a problem.

Ah well I was using "all purpose" glue. I was priming with regular chaos black. I have never had this problem before with metal.

Soak them all in Simple green, something is on them I would bet. Also if you have a small metal file, run it over the joins before gluing, this give the glue something to hold and bond too.

Yeah I would give them a good wash. Were they stripped by someone before you got them?

Also, I would not use GW primer. There are plenty of other companies that make better stuff for much less. More importantly, you probably want to use a white primer for the Grey Knights, since I assume they're going to be mainly silver. It's a lot easier to do metallics on white primer than on black. Army Painter white is a good choice.

I am going to disagree, metalics look good on black, on white they look pale and unmetallic. NMM depends on what colour you are going for to decide on the primer colour.

First post- My metal servitors had the same problem. just scrub them with a brush and some soap, then make sure you get all the soap off too. Someone told me its leftover release agent. Good luck!

You'll find most people say the exact opposite. Metallics tend to be quite washed out and patchy over white.

They were new from the blister, and I used a proper primer now which seems to work just fine. For one im actually not painting grey knights grey (shock, horror!) they are mainly black (black knights). I gave them a good scrubbing so they should be fine now. Thanks for the help everyone.

Better to do 'em black, I say. I have an Iron Warriors army, and I'd have to say that black just works better for metals. Granted, my boys will be a darker steel colour than Grey Knights, but the point still stands.

GW uses a mold releasing agent, which is basically a low grade lube, at times it doesn't clean/dry off all the way before the end user gets it. For future reference even with plastics it is always best to soak the models in at least dish soap water before assembling.
