I used to play Black Templars because back in the day they were awsome they got a new codex and their rules fit with my way of fighting. I love close combat getting close to my opponent and then bashing his face in or cutting it off with my sword. BA's were imo very hard to rely on for close combat because it wasn't guarenteed they would get the extra movement however Black Templars got it every time they got shot. They were crazy and thats what made them fun plus their fluff was awsome and they had the best paint scheme of any army. However in recent months I have gone to playing BA's because their new rules are awsome and the Black Templars codex is incredibly out dated and imo very hard to use in the current rules. Their units are too expensive, their veterans suck, and they don't have access to the Land Raider Redeemer. So all I'm asking is if anyone has any ideas for a good Black Templars list that will work with the current rules or if anyone has any idea when a new codex is coming out for Black Templars?

BTs are still very competitive in 5th, but as you said, they take a little getting used to. The biggest hurtle is getting over the fact that we don't get shiny new toys.
Basically taking a bunch of 20 man crusader squads w/ PF and meltagun, led by some officers (HQs/Techmarines if you're cheap) or Grimaldus is generally pretty good. Throw in some high Strength, long range firepower (Predators/Vindis - shorter but still good)... and you're basically set.
Of course... I haven't run that way for awhile since it takes too friggin long to move 40-60 models around (I could never play orks). Drop pods are cheap and pretty solid, as are our LRCs.

My buddy runs about 25 Terminators, and Emperor's Champion, 2 Devastator squads in Rhinos, and two Land Raider Crusaders and wipes boards clean. The entire army has Favored Enemy and most of them have the crusader seals, making it a mistake to fire on them.

I sincerely ask you: Where in the name of the Emprah does he get Devastators from as Black Templars?

sorry, looked over his list and I misread lascannon-armed crusader squads as devastator squads. Automatically Appended Next Post: here's a question, why is it that people get really latched on to a race/chapter/craftworld/etc. until the new over-powering codex comes out, then they dump what they know and loved for the new and shiny? I pay Dark Angels because I like them, and even with everyone getting new codexes, I stick with what I know.
what gives?

exactly. At least I got one of the power gamers at my FLGS to admit that it takes balls to run Dark Angels. He also shudders at the mention of my buddy's Black Templars!

I won't stop using the BT codex. The only exception would be, of course, a new BT codex for 5th ed

BT are still good. The fact that a Marshal with a storm shield and Thunder hammer with the mantel can kill Calger (sometimes in the first turn). Thats a 150pt model killing a 250pt model. 100 points return.
Makes the codex a good one in my book.

The BT codex is not that bad but I can see where people get miffed because of all the new toys in the new vanilla marines book.
I think the biggest thing that kills me from 4-5th ed is the fact that sword brethern suck in power armor. I'd like to see them get some rules like the Sternguard and vanguard to make them worth using.

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you. |

I will admit this, Dark Angels and BT have got BALLS playing said armies in fifth. I once played a game against Deathwing (thats the all terminators right?). They are a tough nut to crack, and I ended up getting wipped off the board. And BT seem to be Marines in the same sence Dark Eldar are Eldar, they share a name, but play totally diffrent. Granted, I switched from vanilla to BA the day it was released, but I find that the BA codex works well with the way I was already playing. It is a little cheap in a few departments. With Space Wolves and BA already updated (Who thought thouse were coming back eh?) Dark Angels and BT dont look to far off.

I have a grudge against the BT codex getting updated. They told me that they would make an Iron Hands codex after they did BT, and then if BT get two codexes in a row, I would lose all hope. I mean, they don't even have their own primarch! It would be nice to see a shooty non-codex codex for once. (besides DA, but they don count... they are even worse! what do DA have? A lack of Sternguard and Vanguard, thats what. and a jetbike) I know that that would make there be about 8 space marine books floating around, but I dunno, BT are cool and all, but GW promised... then they forgot.
That said, I think the templars are a really cool chapter, tough that the other marines moved up in power while the templars didn't. (yet)

I'll laugh if a new BT book introduces the Crusade of the Crusading Crusaders of Eternal Crusading.
I mean, we're pretty close to having the Bloody Blood of the Bloodinator's Bloodination...
And the Wolfy Wolf of the Wolf Wulfen...

They do. He's called Rogal Dorn. He Created the chapter for his favorite son Sigismund the first Emperor's Champion and became the first High Marshal. We, unlike the other fist chapters, actually did what Dorn wanted and ignored the Codex set out by girlyman. We also have Dorns sword and most of his other relics.
