Hey guys,
I've developed a solid core for my Tyranid army, but I'm not sure where to go with the rest of it Here's the core:
Tervigon w/ Toxin, Adrenal, Catalyst, Cluster spines
2 Hive Guard
2 Hive Guard
2 Hive Guard
10 Termagants
Tervigon w/ Toxin, Adrenal, Catalyst, Cluster spines
Tyrannofex w/ Rupture cannon
Tyrannofex w/ Rupture cannon
2 Carnifexes
That's 1390 pts. I've experimented with gargoyles, hormagaunts and a flyrant, but the little guys really need the flyrant and it tends to die quickly. Any ideas?

I think Tyrannofex are too pricey for what they are.. you are better off with trygons..
but I would say some warriors for your list extra synaps and they are pretty tough.. Otherwise Genestealers on the outflank are always a good option

From my experience the cheap units are fairly useless in small numbers (in this case termagaunts). What are your termagaunts equipped with? If it is anything other that Devourers they are rather useless because you only get one shot. I also agree with the getting more synapse creatures.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

I agree that the small tyranids do not last long in small units. With tervigons there isn't any points paying for units which you get for free however the problem I had was the spawned units would be between 7-11 and wouldn't last long. I've found taking more smaller creatures doing better but YMMV.
On another note I think you're investing too many points into heavy support. Those tyrannofexes are about 270 each and then 160 per carnifex that's a lot of points all in one FOC. Flesh out your list first.

Yeah, the reason I don't have larger termagant units is because I'll be getting them for free. That unit is there to make one of my tervigons Troops. There's a fairly good chance I'll move the other to Troops as well, so I'll pick up another 10-bug brood. The small units do evaporate when faced with...well, just about anything, but it doesn't concern me too much. The list as it stands lacks much CC hitting power, but I have 410 points to play with.
I am dropping a ton on HS (850 points!), but I've found that they're well worth it. T-fexes, C-fexes and Hive Guard are the three best units we have for anti-armor, and I've found that I really need to saturate the board with them to keep them alive. Basically, I've spent 1150 points on anti-tank and 440 on support.
Hmm...I guess I've answered my own question. I should probably get some anti-infantry. I like the warriors idea because it will ad even more targets for the heavy weapons, and will make it easier to give my big bugs cover. On the other hand, I already have a bunch of gargoyles and about 15 hormagaunts...

Yes, I did actually say no point in paying for Termagants if you get them for free. I just said they work better in bigger units.
Anti tank I've found Hive Guard to be very good and a single unit of two Zoanthropes tackle the tough stuff.
I've been running Warriors lately all with deathspitters, toxin sacs and rending claws and they do well. I also use 2 x 20 Hormagaunts along with a Tyrant with preferred enemy.
