After 2 - 3 years hiatus, I've decided that it's high time to finish repainting my army for the 2nd time. I was already in the process of painting up a brood of Spinegaunts (which back then was a minimum of eight models and costed less than the Termagants), so that was finished off. I wished that I had taken a picture or two of the first iteration of my army scheme, but damn was it horrible . This time around in repainting I'm going to do it properly: Strip the coats of paints off first, and remove all mold lines.

So from my 2nd iteration of my army scheme (the shine is from the gloss varnish):

To my 3rd iteration of my army scheme (no gloss varnish):

The paint job isn't the best, but for how many I need to paint of these it'll have to do .The base haven't yet been finished though, just PVAed sand and painted black. I'm waiting for my paint shipment to arrive from Maelstrom Games. I'm looking to make it dark brown, adding in some larger 'rocks' and static grass. Coming along with the paints are also varnishes, but this time I'm going to try satin, the glossiness looks bad to me now...

But in the mean time I'm working on a brood of Hormagaunts that are being painted, rippers that have been stripped and cleaned of mold lines and some Genestealers lightly primed.

^Final Bleach bone layer done on the right.

^Ripper Swarm pile! (more or less 40 ripper models)

^Lightly primed Genestealer, you can see blue that is from the original colour of the plastic.

I've read that a lot of people use Simple Green or brake fluid to strip their paint, so just to throw another possible paint stripper out there (that doesn't harm plastics as far as I can tell) is Methylated Spirits. I haven't come across Simple Green here yet and I don't want to work with brake fluid so I can't quite compare performance, but it works well enough. I soak the model overnight and most of the paint becomes sludge. For metal models I favor acetone since it sludgifies super glue as well and does a better job at removing paint overall.

If you want to criticize, I'm all for it!

I'm nearly done with my Hormagaunt brood! I just need to paint on the final carapace patterns on the rest of them:

^ I was testing out a few ways to paint the carapace pattern, the rightmost one is the way I want it to look.

I've also did some more work on my spine gaunt base:

I use Scorched Brown and highlighted with Graveyard Earth for the soil. I wanted the soil to be dark to contrast with the model. There's also a sheen to the model too:

^ This was an application of Vallejo gloss > matte > matte varnish. It doesn't kill the shine very well but the sheen it gives off looks rather nice I reckon. Sort of more natural don't you think?

The base isn't completely finished yet though, I'm still going to add a sort of dull-green grass to the base (which I don't have yet). But before that I'd like to know if you guys think the soil looks alright? It still looks sort of flat to me.

Oh and I'm also working on repainting a landspeeder (previous edition), here some pics:

^ 'Stripped' and ready to be painted again. The primer doesn't seem to be coming off very easily on the plastic parts.

^ Magnetizing the gunner's weapons, it's stuck on the tack gluing because I've broken the grip :(.

Oh and be aware of Galeforce Nine's 'Medium' and 'Rocky' grit, the one's I've ordered are pretty much the same size in grit (rocky is supposed to be larger):

I agree with Tim, I think the colour scheme looks lovely, a really nice army coming along here and don't worry, I think the base looks good. A little bland at first glance, but on closer inspection it looks really nice!

Two things however:
- Where are the big things?! I'd love to see a monstrous creature with your army scheme. Maybe keep collecting those rippers and make them into one big rolling monstrous creature mass?

- Good Luck on the Speeder, which chapter? Oh and I think you should keep the arms and multimelta in the blu-tack and field it as a spawn instead.

Well that's a relief for the bases .

I have some of the bigger 'nids painted up, two hive tyrants and a carnifex, just haven't taken any photos of them yet. They were the first to use this color scheme and was done a year or two back. One of the tyrant is winged and was my first model with any serious conversion works and now looking back on I want to try again and make it more dynamic. I will post some pictures of the big 'nids later.

And I'd love to see a mass of rippers on a 60mm base, or the base that comes with the Trygon. As if the Forgeworld's version is not swarmy enough.

The speeder is for the Dark Angels and they were the first army I collected until I decided that we had enough Space Marines players in high school, not regretting it.

Oh yes, fear my chaos blu-tack spawn.

Well that all sounds loooovely!

I quite like the dark angels so that could be cool (other than the spawn in the passenger seat), particularly with your 'greenage' abilities!

I look forward to your big nids and the mass of rippers.

Haven't touched my Hormagaunts since I posted their progress pictures , but I did manage to get some shots of my bigger nids.

This is my carnifex armed with two pairs of devourers that were converted from two pairs of deathspitters arms. The real pair of devourer arms went to the hive tyrant (not yet posted) as its smaller size somewhat suited the hive tyrant more. The base was done with another color scheme: snakebite leather highlighted with bleached bone and some generic static grass added. The reason I changed the color scheme of the base was to make the model pop out more.

And there's little bits of dusts here and there which I didn't see before taking the shots, and ugh the mold lines

Great Looking Carnifex!

Admittedly, the head's not my favourite, but that's personal preference, but I think the pose is dynamic and the painting very good!

next?

Thanks everyone , since uni the start of uni it's been hard for me to get back into the flow of painting. I'm actually sliding back into doing little drawings (of a different subject matter) since it's so much more convenient >.>

I kind of feel that it isn't really that unique with how the carapace is highlighted as quite a lot of Tyranids that I've come across browsing galleries does this sort of highlighting (with different colors). Also the way that I came up with this color scheme was following Hive Fleet Kraken colour scheme (red carapace, bone skin) BUT swapping the reds for greens (my favorite color) .

Admittedly, the head's not my favourite, but that's personal preference

I reckon this head is one of the nicer looking ones as its got some flair to it . The normal head is like an enlarged termagant's head with more neck muscles!

I'll get some photos up of the Hive Tyrants sometime later in the week.

More pictures, this time of my shooty Tyrant (and attempted some dusting before shooting):

^ Armed with two, twin-linked devourers from the carnifex set. The arms looks a little disproportionate.

^ The tail were modified with a pair of large pointy carapace and small pointy carapace.

^ The antennas were made with wires and green stuff, modeled off of the carnifex head with the antennas. Amazing how a camera can pick out the details, I mean I can't even see the graininess of the carapace on the model itself but it's very apparent in the pictures.

I've also making headway with the hormagaunts, painting a layer of carapace pattern on two models per day. At the moment all the dark angels green are done so the next layer up is snot green.

Also I'm running out of Monstrous 'Nids to distract you from my slow progress :(.

That Hive Tyrant really shows off the quality of your colour scheme and ability! Nice Work!
