I wasn't really sure where to ask this. I'm interested in Starting an IG army, and rather than tell you what I was thinking of building, I was hoping someone could give me a general Idea of the list I would need for primary enemies Ork/Tyranid.

With occasional bouts agains Eldar/SM

I would greatly appreciate any suggestion on how to build such an army, and the most cost effective(real cost, not points) way of purchasing an IG army.

If you're facing mainly ork and tyranid armies then that means you're facing a horde army...tons of cheap models with poor armor saves. Answer to that is alot of flame models. Vets w/ flamers, hellhounds, chimeras with multi-laser and heavy flamers. squads of leman russes will ruin any ork/tyranid army. who cares if you scatter, you'll hit something!

Cost effective: you can get things off ebay a LOT cheaper if you're patient, don't bid too high (a mate of mine sees decent shape ebay models regularly going for more than retail occassionally, bidding makes people idiots) and don't mind stripping the paint off of models.

Buy battleforces instead of individual infantry squads + heavy weapons. Technically a slightly cheaper way to get bodies is just the 10-man infantry boxes, but IG are completely useless without heavy and special weapons, so get the battalions. Don't buy individual HW boxes, they are massively overpriced. If you procure some cheap 50mm bases, you can use infantry box bodies to make several HWTs for every team you've actually bought.

Vehicles - you should probably start off by buying a couple LR tanks. These give you more points for your cash than hellhounds or valkyries, and are really good against new/inexperienced players.

Eldar Corsairs: 4000 pts
Imperial Guard: 4000 pts

Corregidor 700 pts
Acontecimento 400 pts
