I started orks a few days ago (got the battleset, more boyz and some nobz) but Im not sure what to do with my orks yet.
I like the shooty orks ( at least, I heard good stuff bout them) and was wondering if they are good in battle and competitive.

So please leave some feedback

Thanks in advance ;D

shootin orks can be done and differs from person to person due to playstyle and they can be competitive once you get the hang of them. but i suggest that if you need ideas for your list that you check out the army list and battle report sections as they will give more insight into tactics and lists in general.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

The backbone of the ork gunline is 3 squads of max lootas. Build from there based on preference: kans, big guns (kannons), etc. and support with loads of shoota boyz and KFF meks. You can put out a dizzying number of shots per turn, so be prepared to move and roll dice quickly.

I have run shooty orks for a long time and really the only issue is poping tough armor. Orks just dont really have a good way to do it. I while I always run shoota boys. I always put a PK in each group as to have an option to pop tanks.

if your wanting to pop AV14 armor i would suggest a deff-roller on a battlewagon as it deals d6 str 10 hits on tank shock and rams.

Shooty Orks are obscene. 30 shoota boyz with 3 big shootas can annihilate almost any infantry unit with shooting. Just remember to always, always give a unit a power klaw nob. Have them move up and shoot every turn, and once you're close to some armor you can assault and wipe it out with a strength 9 power klaw. Toss in 1-3 units of Lootas in the backline, and you can gunline almost as well as the Guard.

I have fun with my shooty lists. Like TheOniTsuki said though, you're best to pack something for Tank Busting, especially if you go with a full 3 units of Lootas since that means leaving your Tankbustas at home (I know people dislike them, but the models are fun and I've had surprisingly good luck with them). You can use Shokk Attack Guns and Zzzap Guns for anti-tank and they are hilarious, but they're not exactly the most dependable tank busting guns in the game.

So, paint yourself some models, buy an extra block of dice and enjoy some Dakka Orks! It might seem like a lot of rolling, but remember anyone can hit something with BS4. Hitting things with BS2, that's an accomplishment!

Keep in mind that even shooty Orks will often end up in assault. Shoota boyz are still great at it, and powerklaws are really your only reliable way to deal with heavy armor.

The rule of thumb is that orks with shootas go on foot while orks with choppas go in vehicles.

Inside that little light in your refridgerator

Lots of shoota boys, lots of lootas, SAG mek in HQ (or 2), Bikers/buggies/koptas in FA (your pick, biker give a lot of shots and some CC bite, so would be my choice), kans and kannons in HS.

This. I've not played enough to speak with confidence about very much in 40k, but out of the dozen or so games I've played as Orks, this is far and away the best strategy. So far as which one is better then the other, if you must only have one, then I'd go with how many models you can field. If you have 10 or less models, the Choppy orks will probably do better because of the extra attacks. If you have more then 10 models, then I think the shooty Orks will do better, since their real effectiveness is in forcing so many dice rolls that you get some 1's for saves.

As a new Ork player, you will almost certainly take a look at these well-written Ork Tactica articles which have really helped to guide my army building.
