This might be a really stupid question so please bare with me and be patient.

I am looking at putting Archaon in a unit of Knights, I want 2 ranks. Due to the size of Archies base am I correct in my assumption that this is how it would work?

So thats 8 knights and Archaon.

Would that be the correct way to do it?

Now im slightly confused. The base of Archaon is the same lenght as a normal cav base but is twice its width.

Wouldnt work surely as it would leave a gap in the second rank.

I appreciate its a boring question but please help me out. All i need to know is would i still get my rank even though there would only be 4 models in the first rank
and 5 in the second.

If I remember rightly, characters can be placed anywhere in the front rank. So how you placed him originally is fine (especially if the unit has full command).

You have two options, 2nd rank optional in second example because you only have to have 5 knights. And what is he classified as in 8th edition? IF he is a Monstrous Calvary then he cant join the unit anymore. But I dont have the rulebook in front of me.

Monstrous Cavalry CAN join unit, but MOnstrous Mounts cannot.

In 7th ed, according to BRB FAQ part 2, he counts for as many "normal" models as he displaces - 2 in this case. So to start getting a rank bonus you only need 3+Archaon on the front, 5 normal guys on 2nd rank, etc.

Ah many thanks Nos, this is what I was looking for. I appreciate that this 'may' change with the new edition though I am hoping it doesn't.

belial - note that the first line IS an 8th ed answer, as in 7th any monstrous mount can join a unit just fine.

However i didnt thinki Dorghar was a Monstruos mount any loinger anyway - onloy has one wound.
