First some background, i play with fam/friends a lot, we have SM:BA, Nids, Witchhunters (+IG and GreyKnights), SW (me). There is no local scene around here so its just our basement and us 4.
My Army: I have a infantry heavy army of SW
3 Battleforces (1 is SM 2 are SW)
10 Fen Wolves
2 Razorbacks
1 Whirlwind
5 SW termies
6 long fangs
all the named units *minus bjorn
1 Dreadnought
I like the play style of the SW's, granted im fairly new and am not very good. Ive only been playing about a year to 18 months and only get a game or 2 every couple months in.
Im looking to start building a 2nd army just, starting small, maybe a battleforce or a couple boxes. I still have a wrapped SW battleforce that i may return and trade for something new. And i might be acquiring my brother's Nid army for $200 (about 3000-3500pts worth) and that has a unopened 5th ed battleforce as well, so i can possibly return that as well.
Now that's out of the way here are my questions/ideas.
1) i was thinking either Orks, Eldar, IG or Tau. How do the playstyles of each differ from SM/SW? I dont get to see them in action so its hard to judge.
2) I like the Orks' 'style', they have a really fun feel, does that follow through into play, i know they are more of a horde army so numbers matter. Are there shooty builds that are viable and good? One thing i find with SW is while i get the bolter and 2cc weapons so i can shoot well and assault well i find it too hard to focus on shooting and always push for the assault.
3) I dont know a ton about the eldar, i have read that they are very versatile. Outside that i dont know much about them. Any Info?
4)IG, well vehicles galore, sound like a lot of fun, but expensive. Are smaller armies balanced, or is there a tipping point where IG is bad until you can field x number of leman russes?
5) Tau, i dont have many questions, its just an option im weighing, the firepower sounds fun.
I may add more as i think about it.
