Hey guys, I am an established poster here so trust me when I say I'm not a bot. You guys NEED to check out the deals on Steam right now. I spent this morning kicking myself because I own about half the games for the THQ package already. I might get scolded\locked\Kicked\Banned by a Mod or an Admin but according to the first sentence by yakface in the sticky for this section I'm using this board exactly as it is intended.
http://store.steampowered.com/
I play Warhammer40K like a lot of you guys and they have the entire collection + a number of other games by THQ for close to $50.
In an effort to start an acctual conversation from this how many people here think that Digital distribution is the direction that media is going?
EDIT: My bad, I did not think that THQ did Firewarrior but evidently they did and that one does not appear to be part of the package. Sorry for the misinformation.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

Steam has pushed me away from PC gaming. Its annoying. The title has to be mega impressive for me to buy it on PC.

Yeah, I was afraid for a second that Lego would have something in place to auto-ban me but I'm glad I was wrong. The price is pretty sick even if the titles are only amusing for a few weeks each.

I picked this up last Black Friday on sale for the same price, all the DoW games plus a bunch of other stuff including the old Red Faction games, S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Company of Heroes. Don't know if it's the same pack as then, but if it is it's a pretty damned good deal.
Don't get me hot around the collar with Steam, though... almost every night I sit cursing it for one reason or another. What should have been the most simple and natural of video game delivery platforms became the most bug-riddled, uncooperative, resource-hungry and unreliable advertising trojan I ever tolerated for five years without formatting the computer.

Steam / Live / Stardock's Impulse / EA they all want their own little network where you can purchase the an add-on here or there or the odd game that is reaching the end of it's cycle.
I agree Steam is better than most but some games on Steam also require the log-in to Live as well. If either network is down or the game no longer supported, you are out of luck.
All these add-on's and required registration has now killed resale of all PC games. Heck, I spent an hour trying to convince Live I had re-installed a game and want all my down loadable content back.
I keep having flashbacks to some dungeon game for the Commodore 64 that you had to buy modules for different areas to play. In another life it was called "crippleware" but mass effect 2 and Dragon Age are getting awfully close (fantastic games but the add-ons later after I won the game are getting irritating). Give me a complete game, then make a suppliment that is huge and complete. I did not get irritated by all the Dawn of War original releases, they were big and felt complete unto themselves.

I agree, if there's anything game designers in general should learn from, oh, say Blizzard, it's how to make a bloody expansion. The only other major gripe I have is that the complexity of PC games is being so crippled by the console market that new titles no longer take full advantage of the keyboard/mouse as they used to be, and rather than consoles getting sloppy ports of games made for PC, it's now the other way around.
Oh look, I'm completely off topic. Steam makes me angry. I'm pretty sure that they're a bunch of sociopaths doing a sick experiment on us all.

The Steam deals kill me A year and a half in Christmas I bought the Id Software pack. Later, Rockstar pack. This year, Unreal pack. This week I've spent about $30 and I've bought a lot of games. The rest of the year Steams sucks like any other else*, but when they lower the prices... * CoD: MW 49'95€. MW2 is released and instead of lowering the price of MW, they keep it and they release MW2 at 59'95€ WTF? No way I'm buying that.

Yeah your probably right, that was alittle harsh of me, I'll change it though to; Steam is almost as bad as Punkbuster.
Seriously though Im not a big fan of additional programs that I need in order to use other programs... That and I like actually owning the box and the disk. I like stuff.

I guess I should coun't myself lucky that my steam account hasn't had any issues. Any time my nets out (crappy cable one provider) I just switch to offline mode and keep playing my games. I do love the sales. I remember when half life was a buck.

I see a lot of people blowing off steam (*sorry*) in forums, but I've had nothing but good experiences with them. Their VOIP is fine, using them to online game works great, and it's the closest thing to xBox live that PC gamers have.
At one point in my life I would have prefered collecting boxes and CDs and manuals, but once you start downloading and playing ... with all patches automatically updating your games as they come out ... I don't see a downside. The sales are nice too.
