I know that as per the 40k rulebook, you can destroy intact buildings as you would any vehicle but I was wondering if you could destroy ruins that some pesky long fangs are entrenched in.

I believe the page number referencing building destruction is page 77 in the BRB. It goes from Building (intact) to Ruins, to crater. Crater being a 'destroyed' result on the vehicle damage table. So, why waste shots shooting at an enemy when you can possibly kill/pin the unit by bringing it's perch crumbling down around it?

I mean, rail guns got to do more than 1 shot marines and warriors (after killing all tanks and monstrous creatures that is) and it would be awesome to just drop the hammer on them.

destroyed/wrecked result makes a building a ruin

destroyed/explodes result makes a building a crater

though once it is a ruin you cannot make it a crater from subsequent shooting - basically you are force to shoot at the unit occupying the ruins

you might want to look into the Cities of Death expansion - it does have rules to destroy ruins further that you may be able to incorperate into your normal games if your opponent agrees

You cannot destroy Ruins. The only reason you can destroy buildings is they are treated like a Vehicle, and therefore can be Ruined or turned into a crater.

You can create a houserule to that effect, but it would only be a houserule

Ah nuts. It would have been nice to kill them in a more round about way. Yeah I'm aware of Cities of Death. Its ok...then again I've only played 1 game in it. Though with as much terrain as my friends and I use, we basically have a city fight game ever game. Its mostly the imperial city ruins we use, I'm working on some Tau counterparts, but they are slow in coming because I'm working on painting and other various things.

Well your group could always house rules something. There never is a rule saying you cant do that. Hell we have a house rule at my place that any vehicle with an armor value (not walkers obviously) can ram.tankshock. Its pretty fun, not to mention you end up seeing suicide landspeeders. Base points Landspeeders, ramming at close to full speed is just hilarious. Most of the time the speeder explodes smashing into things. Good times
