I know that I can use Daemonhunters in an IG from various web sources but I've downloaded the DH Codex and can't see any mention of it there.
Does anybody know how it works?

If you own the original book, yes. If you have only the PDF, no.

It seems that the free gifts from GW are intended only for those starting an Ordos army. That way, you don't buy units you can't use when the new books do come out.

I only have the PDF.

Is there a new book scheduled for the DH then?

Check around the interwebs... rumors abound.

I would say you can still integrate IG into a DH force and vice versa in the new codex

Some sources at GW are also saying that the omission of the allies rules from the pdf files is an error:

So GW is currently saying two different, contradictory things. Take your pick.

I hope they dont get rid of the allies it kinda ruins the idea of a inquisitors power over planetary forces

that and i have just started a IG / DH army

Either way, use the rules that you have. Saves confusion that way.

So if I choose to include them for the time being , until a proper codex comes out and clears up the confusion, how should I go about it?
Do I have to have a detachment of each? How did it work in the physical codex?

Buy the physical codex and it will tell you - ebay is your friend.

WE cant give out rules wholesale here, otherwise GW lawyers teleport in with meltaguns...

You shouldn't. If you're using the PDF codex, you don't have access to allies.

Don't try to use rules you don't have. That way lies madness.

Additionally, if the current rumours are to be believed (and the removal of the allies rules from the PDF would seem to lend them some weight) the allies rules will be gone from the next incarnation of the codex, so it's rather pointless to be starting an army based around them at this point in time unless you are fully prepared for it to be obsolete in the relatively near future.
