Not asking if it is a good idea or not, but is it possible to have an all cav army in WHFB? Empire? Or at least 75% of the army?

Your best bet is brettonian, who can take a ton of cavalry, however, in 8th edition the power of this kind of army is in question.

I have 30 Kislev winged lancers & 10 Gryphon, plus 5 winged lancers on bears (tsar boris bears) and tsar boris on bear too....also 10 horse archers and 5 converted pistoliers that look like russian druzhinas....61 mounted models (9 units).....

Well....it's possible as Empire Knightly Orders _ARE_ Core and can be upgraded to Knights of the Inner Circle for a small points increase.

If you're wondering whether it's particularly playable....that's more debatable. With the new rules making all combat going by Initiative order, the Empire Knights have taken a BIG hit.

I haven't even looked at the new book....Last time I did WHFB was 2 editions ago!

Heh. Well...Let's just say currently....I wouldn't recommend it, BUT:

Knights can be Core or Special.
Outriders/Pistoliers are Special.
Every character can be mounted.

No mounted archer units currently, though, and nothing immediately comes to mind that could be used "count as" for the bear riders (unless you don't mind them being kind of crappy knights).

I have some winged lancers as well, and I just use them as Knights. Personally, I would go with Lancers as core Gryphon as Inner Circle Knights, and Bear Calvalry as Dogs of war Rhinox Riders. (ogres on wooly mammoths/rhinos) I suppose the Red Tsar could be a general on a griffon, if a particularly wingless and fast on his feet example. Pistoleers would be horse archers.

Like said. Its possible. If you get round to fielding this take pics! And update on how they fare. New editions are always fun watching people find out new possible army lists and themes.

Well, I might have 25% be on foot & 75% be mounted...Or would a 33% foot/67% cav be a better ratio?

Most people are saying that Cavalry took a serious, serious beating in 8th ed. Given that they lost their two biggest advantages, mobility and a hard hitting charge, they're very overpriced and ineffective.

Random charges allow infantry to be a lot more mobile than they were before. Makes cavalry less attractive for the high cost of the units.

Everyone swinging on initiative means that unless your cave are I5 or better, they're going to take casualties before they get to swing. This means less swings, and therefore less of a hard punch. Again, probably not enough of a hard punch to be worth the points.

So if you're going to do an all cav army, be prepared to lose quite often.

Hmmm. I may have to rethink this Kislev army....I'll "advance" this Kislev (medieval russian) army into the gunpowder age then, and have 66% foot & 33% cav, and have gunners (streltsy)...

I'm still trying to figure out how they're going to 'un-nerf' Knights in this edition...

Why, advise you to field them in 300-400pt sized units so as to have a rank or two. Now when you charge it's Static Resolution 4 vs 4. You're just stuck in the old edition wherein you didn't buy three boxes of cavalry for each unit you wished to field.

Sadly, this seems like it will be GW's solution. Buy big blocks of Cavalry.

This is still going to be a problem, especially with expensive cav like Chaos Knights. 10 Chaos knights is 400 points. That would give me almost two blocks of infantry which would perform infinitely better. GW is going to have to "un-nerf" cav or they will be selling less cav models. I really hope people won't be suckered into actually buying more cavalry models because of the rules change.

Would be fine if they allowed steadfast to be removed by having your rank bonus removed via flank/rear charges

IMO, that would be the easiest and possibly most effective change. I sincerely hope they do that, as seeing Cavalry be so weak is depressing.
