In case it wasn't known Dark Sun is get a 4th Edition release here in the next month or so. I've been playing the Encounters Season 2 game of it and besides the errors (they rushed it and the errata is the size of the mod) it is fun but very brutal.

Looking forward to this. It's been ages since I have played Dark Sun.

The Gamma World 4th Edition boxset is coming out next month too.

So how did you find it worked with the new engine/edition then ? Is it the same classic Dark Sun races ?

We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Oh now I remember that thread. <_<

Anyway the early rules with the Encounters set don't have the Preservation/Destruction magic rules. Muls and Thri-kreen are accounted for at the moment, others may be in the main rulebook. The classes are sort are similar to the standard classes but have a few different powers and the titles are different. Fighter can be Wasteland Nomad or Gladiator and depending on the choice you get a few different abilities.

So far it is really hard to stay alive; it is working fine in the new system for the most part.

We do have the breakage rule, though I think there will be more to it. On a roll of a "1" a character can choose to reroll the attack: non-metal weapons break regardless of whether the second attack hits or not whereas rarer, metal weapons only break on a 1-5 on the reroll.

Wow... D&D is bringing back Dark Sun... maybe this will mean Ravenloft will see a resurgence, like we thought when Wizards made a Strahd mini and revamped Castle Ravenloft... They must be taking a page from the Games Workshop playbook...

Actually Ravenloft is a board game to be released at GenCon. It something akin to Hero Quest. Board Game Geek has a decent preview here.

Ravenloft was the bane of our gaming group... of course it was filled with players whom our DM's god (who was once their best friend) created, so by forcing them into Ravenloft, they sudden;y had no friend to help them... *evil cackle*

Even if it looks 4th edition-y, I still want it!

I was always rather more partial toPlanescape, with a side of Ravenloft here and there. I'm good at writing adventures with a lot of moral gray areas which made The Demi-Plane of Dread really fun...

Darksun is my third favorite Second Edition expansion though, so I'm looking forward to it.
