Will someone please explain to me what the hell is going on here????

Just watched an episode of it now and a smattering before it. It's like Twilight or Underworld, but with much more adult content.

And what the hell is the obsession with this series? No seriously, I am trying to find what kind of insanity it is trying to represent. The lastest episode I watched at a very wretched ended I don't think I could reasonably descibe without going PG and M content on this forum.

Someone be my light in this vampire and werewolf infested series.

Watch it from the beginning. It will make alot more sense that way. It's based off a book series, and all the stuff that you were just thrown into took time to build up to all the way from the first episode of season 1. And don't EVER compare it to the sparkly fruitiness that is twilight, please, for the love of god...

I just did.

True Blood is like Twilight, but with more adult content.

And I'll take a glance at some of the earlier work to see what happened.

But I need a more in-depth explanation to the thought process going here rather than a plot summary, k'thx.

Easy to explain: HBO put it's special little spin on it.

I have read all the books. Little bit twisted yes, but not as "in your face" anywhere near as how it is shown.

All the fun and smart bits have been rearranged or dummied down, this is one of the few times I would say hands-down the books are better.

The order is all messed up, the build-ups in the book they rearrange on TV so it just seems really strange for all the carnage that goes on for what seems no reason.

I think my favorite quote from any book came from that series: "Could you please go over there and push his rib back into place?"

I have not had such fun since the character Spike from the Buffy/Angel series.

P.S. I have read Twilight, main difference is it takes itself too seriously unlike True Blood.

dude, it's a good show...

it's like nip/tuck, a personal favorite....

you need to watch from the beginning, if you don't, you are like" wtf is this awful degrading superficial bs?".....

you need to have character history and context....

It’s a reasonably well made TV show. If you think the premise and main characters are interesting then you’ll like it, if you don’t then you won’t.

Also, Sookie is hot.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I like True Blood mostly because I think it is a fair representation of "proper" vampires (not sparkly pedos),
The story is pretty silly imo, but it has pretty good acting and characters, but yeah, I certainly wouldn't class it as a great show, but it is the best vampire related show/movie/books currently around that I know of.

caveat: I know practically nothing about the books, never read them, only know what I read on wiki once, that sounded like the story gets even more ridiculous later)

Also, from what I know of both it and Twilight - true blood books (Sookie Stackhouse novels) came first, and Twighlight the second one is basically exactly the same plot as the second half of season 1 True Blood
Spoiler:
Bill has to go away, and sookie starts falling for Sam etc

I watched half the first season and gave up. it's ok in some parts, but just dumb in others.

HBO has sucked since they killed deadwood and carnival, sopranos was the only thing keeping them alive and they killed that too

I really like how True blood has shown vampires. It has very few similarities to Twilight. They have accepted that vampires kill people rather than trying to make them seem nice. Even the good vampires are very dangerous to be around.

Here's all you need to know about True Blood: Anna Panquin has nice breasts.

Otherwise, it's a vampire show.

My fiancee watches it for the vampires, I watch it because I dig on the South.

Comparing it to twilight is kind of simplistic though. You could compare any love story with supernatural beings in it to Twilight.

Hmm True Blood plot summery....

Vampires are an "accepted" part of society, I believe the term is 'undead americans'. Anna Panquin plays a character with the misfortune to be named Suckie (I know its way off, play along) who, surprise, surprise, hooks up with a male vampire. Then other paranormals start getting the idea that they can be part of society. Since its on HBO and on "late" they throw in some shots of underdressed women to appeal to males as well as the Ann Rice vampire enthralled female viewer base.

Hows that True Blood fans? Fairly accurate?

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

I beleve that True Bloods original plot is a rip-off from Laurel K Hamiltons Anita Blake-Vampire Hunter series.

And no, The only thing Twilight anf True Blood share is the words vampire and were-wolf.

I you don't get that day-walking vamps that glitter and were-wolf who transform without pain is what makes Twilight gayer than prison romance, then there isn't much point in you watching any vampire stories that are post Anne Rice. She's the one that made them gay in the first place.

Sookie - Suckie its the same character and basic description of same.

And tell me where in the BASIC plot, other than a single name, I am oh so wrong.

Not angry at all... The plot is so basic and the female lead characters name is such a set-up that the jokes almost write themselves.

True Blood is more Buffy than Twilight. It's ridiculous, it knows it's ridiculous, it's ok with itself for being ridiculous.

It's got some clever stuff in it and some of the characters are pretty interesting (Tara and Lafayette are great, the others range from "Crap, not him again" to "I hope they get an episode so they get developed more"). It's not what I would consider high-brow entertainment, but that's a pretty narrow spectrum on television nowadays.

You like it or you don't. I just finished season 2 on DVD and am a little bummed out I'll have to wait a year or so for season 3 to be available to non-Showtime subscribers.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

I like the original books and the TV series - they are however very different.

I think like a number of other excellent modern supernatural shows / films (Underworld 1-3, Dog Soldiers, Ultravoilet (the series), Moonlight etc etc - its great.

could be alot worse could be Lost

Its on HBO (Dexter is on Showtime), and if you have digital cable its on demand. I just finished Episode 3 of the new stuff last night. I have to say I have now witnessed one of the most disturbing vampire acts EVER.

@Bunker - What do you dig about the South? Cuz I am all up in it. The accents on the show are wretched. I have to say, the only similarity I've found is the bar actually has Abita beer on tap (Turbodog). Oh, and its really hot outside.
