Poll
Can you attack enemy models from an enemy unit who just assaulted into your previous combat?
Yes, of course. I have not heard where you would not be able to.
Yes. I thought no at first, but I came around.
No they cannot fight the new assaulters.

All,

I generated this PowerPoint show based on questions from many forums. Please glance though it and answer the poll.

You can attack enemy models provided you are...

In base contact with them

-or-

Within 2" of a model in base contact and not in base contact with the unit involved in the previous assault

I think the "We've been playing it correctly the whole time, like ever since 5th edition came out, and have to put up with these rules threads" crowd feels left out in the poll options.

Who can fight is determined at the start of the combat, not the start of the Assault Phase.

So yes, you can attack any model with which your model is engaged.

Didn't vote, as an appropriate 'Yes, you can' response is not present in the poll... I have seen this question numerous times before, and I didn't 'come around'...

In my above response, these conditions are, as insaniak stated, checked at the start of combat not after blows have been struck.

Obviously the conditions are not checked after the blows have been struck, but before...

If more of us valued food and cheer and 40K over hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

Read the errata, this very clearly explains this...a poll is kinda not needed.
