I recently found out that when a vehicle explodes, the difficult terrain goes out 1d6" from the hull of the vehicle...

Please tell me this is not true...

The size is unspecified. The rules just tell you to replace the vehicle with an area of difficult terrain. The size is up to you.

The explosion goes out 1d6 from the hull of the vehicle in terms of what can or cannot be wounded by shrapnel.

The size of the crater is the size of the vehicle.

Um... the explosion is just D6" from the hull. (For determining who takes an S3 hit).

Wait, 2d6?

Wait, 2d6?

Yea, was a slip of the finger. I corrected it above.

Nope. As Xca|iber said, the size of the crater is not specified by the rules. It just says to replace the vehicle with 'an area of difficult terrain'...

YEA half-arse rules by GW.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

The land of cotton.

As noted above the rules don't say how big to make the difficult terrain.

Our local group uses markers to mark an area the approximate size and shape of the destroyed vehicle. Some guys have made nice looking crater markers that are the shape of their destroyed vehicles and they work quite well.

Somewhere in south-central England.

One man's half-arsed rules is another man's creative modelling opportunity.

Don't complain too much or GW will produce an official difficult terrain crater for each vehicle and you will have to buy them for use in games.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Creative modeling is ok if we have guidlines, such as roughly the size of the vehicle.

My friend is going to Chicago for the Ard boyz tourney and we found that is how they run things...

So a Large vehicle (storm Raven) blowing up 6" would result in about 11" radius of difficult terrain...

We do have guidelines: replace the vehicle with an area of difficult terrain.

That means the difficult terain is the size and shape of the vehicle that exploded. Which would differ depending on what vehicle exploded

No lazy rules writing is involved here, differnt vehicles are different sizes and shapes depending on their chassis; a Chimera is longer(and I believe wider) than a Rhino, and definitely longer than a Leman Russ. And falcon's have a distinct shape.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

Me and the buddies I game with just use large blast markers to represent the crater. I don't know where we got em all, but it's a good use for em.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

'An area of terrain' simply means 'an area of terrain'... nothing in that statement explicitly makes it the same size as the vehicle.

It's arguably implied at best.

I would make several craters.

As long as they are about the size of the vehicle, plus some area of blast debris, they will look nice and be fair to the game.

It could be done with the Planetstrike craters, or the mdf boards done by that Australian company, or just by cutting templates out of fabric or cardboard, depending on how fancy you want to be.

Yup if I wanted to be TFG, I could place a peice of area terrain that is 4'x6'. Since all it says is replace with a piece of area terrain.

Seriously What do you guys think about how the guys at Ard boy run it?

Personally I wuold have the AoT be close to the size of the vehicle. And not add the d6 roll.

I think it's a nice idea for home games, but for tournaments it's impractical. You need to have too many differently sized crater pieces on hand (or force players to bring 6 different craters for each of their vehicles) to make it workable.

Or use yarn to outline the difficult terrain...
