Lord Carver has been released ridiculously early at at least one games store somewhere. The lucky jerks who got him early are being very vague with the spoilers, but since it's the first full-fledged Minion warlock, I figure it's worth breaking the news here.

So here's the scoop:

Let's start with the basics: he's a minion, he's a farrow, and he's a warlock.

Average speed, pretty decent combat stats, slightly better melee than ranged, pretty decent fury, pretty decent defensive stats.

Two weapons, a short range double barreled shotgun, and a magical melee weapon with reach that hits hard enough to crack Khador armor even on average rolls.

Isn't picky about factions, but only likes to work with Farrow.

Has 4 spells, two of which are ctrl area battlegroup buffs (one for ARM, one for SPD), and a pretty powerful AOE offensive spell. The last spell doesn't read like it could possibly be correct - I expect lots of rule clarification in the future.

Feat boosts all friendly farrow in his control area into melee super-killers.

All in all, a solid model that loves Farrow. If you love Farrow too, then you'll love this guy!

Without divulging too many more details, his Farrow-love goes more than "fluff deep" if you follow my meaning (or even if you don't!)

Also, he looks to be a blend of beat sticky and board control. His mystery fourth spell is great - not AS broken as I first thought... Took me a couple readings for it to click! It's basically like being able to bring a whole unit of warwitches wherever you go...

So there you have it. It was expected that he would work well with other Farrow and would only be able to use Farrow warbeasts and it seems like that's right. I'm guessing that fourth spell affects a friendly Farrow model/unit and turns their ranged attacks into spray attacks, but that's just speculation based on the above clues. The other spells are suspected to be Mobility, Batten Down The Hatches, and Obliteration.

Certainly there are more pieces of the puzzle yet to be seen, specifically the Gun Boar and War Hog, but so far Lord Carver's looking pretty good!

Interesting, we're still waiting on the minion 'contract' rules to determine what you can actually take.

Doubt his spells only work on Farrow. That'd be going a bit far, as even the Rhulic casters can help out non-dorfs. I'd expect the "more than fluff deep" comment simply means he has an Elite Cadre, or something like Sorscha's Desperate Pace.

They posted the table of contents for this month's NQ on their forum too. Included will be the Thornwood Alliance Minion Pact. Link.

Since he can only take Farrow warbeasts, his two battlegroup spells can only affect him and his Farrow warbeasts. As spoiled, his feat can only affect Farrow models. That leaves the mysterious fourth spell. We don't know what it does, but I'm not counting out a Farrow-only restriction. If it's as I suspect (HUGE if, I know), I can see them keeping it Farrow only so they don't have to worry about ridiculous combinations with future ranged units. Would you want to see Alten Ashley with a spray template?

If it makes their attacks sprays, then he's only got a single target to cast it on in his entire list. Battlegroup spells I can understand, but I wouldn't think Privateer'd goat-rope you into playing with just Farrow so hard.

As for Alten, wouldn't be too bad, really. While he'd be able to hurt several beasts at once, the stupidly short range would get him murdered pretty fast. Would also be pretty easy to get around by specifying units instead of model/unit.

Is that another Legion Warbeast I see on that Hordes preview? I lookslike a new Nephelim of some sort.

Really, because now after seeing both Lord Carver and the Warbeast, I've really been thinking about about doing an all piggy force.

All right. More detailed spoilers have come out. This is now all from the new NQ which also contains the Gun Boar, War Hog, and Thrullg, so enjoy those too!

Carver is avg fury. Gaspy defense and one better arm. Tough. Cadre for farrow brigands and inspiration for farrows. Has the butchers feat except better. Nasty short range sawed off shot gun. Gaspys weapon with out sustained attack. Spells are batten down the hatches, mobility, quagmire (defense debuff), and rift.

Gun boar is a medium sized model. Same pts as a defiler. Small AOE avg range gun with decent POW. Bacon. Counterblast animus.

War Hog. Massacre is the animus, free move and swing after killing on the charge. Aggression dial adds extra strength for d3 damage. Slow, Avg mat, Cygnar def and arm. P+S is one less than the hammersmith. Gore attack knocks models on their butts. 1 point less than a Seether.

Thrullg. Minion solo. Arcane interference. Arcane consumption. Spell ward. Reach with magic weapons. Above avg mat. Decent defense and arm. AD. Fast. 3 attacks total all average or slightly above P+S.

So my spell guess was way off. It's apparently very similar to Shadow Bind...

Quagmire. While touching this model you cannot move and are easier to hit. Upkeep spell. Affects faction unit/model. Short range spell.

It's probably an upkeep, too.

And that Cadre for brigands?

Cadre lets all the pigs shoot at once.

As for what that means...
????

I can't make any sense of OH MY GOD CRA!!!

I thought that was funny

Finally, we have the Thornfall Alliance Minion Pact rules!

THORNFALL ALLIANCE:

**CAN INCLUDE ANY MINION FARROW MODEL/UNITS.

*ALSO MAY INCLUDE DR.ARCADIUS,ALTEN ASHLEY,GUDRUN,SAXXON ORRICK,AND VIKTOR PENDRAKE.

*INCREASE FA OF ALL NON CHARACTER FARROW MODELS AND UNITS BY +1

*** FARROW UNITS IN THIS ARMY GAIN "DEPLOY AFTER OTHERS WITH A BIT OF EXTRA DISTANCE"

And that means Dr. Arcadius isn't a farrow model, but has something to do with them, since the Gun Boar fluff mentions him as thier creator. Possible beast buffing solo or second warlock.

And this all came from this thread.

Oh and Carver's feat gives an additional damage die to melee attacks and Overtake to farrow models. That info was kind of spread over a couple of posts, so no quotes.

Typically, no. Standard form for spoiling stats involves things along the lines of "Stryker +1 Def -2 Arm." That sort of thing.
