Hey guys, first time and new player here. Got a few things to ask about one of the best close combat weapon of all time.
My friend showed me the latest FAQ update of Tyranid,
Q:
"If a model with Lash Whips is attacking a model with initiative-boosting rule/piece of wargear (e.g. Furious Charge, an Eldar Banshee Mask etc.), which order are initiatives modified?
A:
The Lash Whips will reduce an enemy model's initiative to 1 before any modifiers are applied. So, a model with Furious Charge that assaults a Tyranid with Lash Whips will strike at Initiative 2, and an Eldar with a Banshee Mask will strike at Initiative 10 in the first round of assault."
So my 1st question is:
Does this mean if a Hive Tyrant armed with bonesword and Lash Whip, charge into a unit of Banshee, the HT will strike second due to the high initiative of Banshee?
Or, if the HT got charged by a unit of Banshee, the HT will strike first since it's not charging?
(Which mean Lash Whips are best to use as a defensive weapon since it will reduce the attacker's Initiative to 1?)
2nd question:
How do nids player take down tanks? I've tried playing against Tau, Eldar and SM in standard game (1,5k points) and all of them usually use heavy weapon such as Tau's railgun (R72, S10, AP1) and Eldar's Prism Cannon. Given that vehicles can cruise for 12", the way I can think of is to deep strike Mycetic spore with Carnifex, or use Mawloc's Terror from the Deep or Trygon. Hive Guard and Zoanthropes are better but they are slow (unless you spore the Zoanthropes) compare to the speed of vehicles and their weapons are quite, short range (Warp Lance is R18 only, need to do psychic cast everytime while Hive Guard's Impaler cannon is R24, S8 and AP4 <-- ouch )

I will also presume that any Dark Eldar model that has the "Always Strkes First" drug effect will always strike first as well regardless of the Lash.
To answer your first question - it looks as if the Banshees would be striking first in both situations (charging and being charged).

For question 1: The banshees will strike first in both scenarios. The Lash Whip's effect is applied first, regardless of who is charging. In other words, it doesn't matter which model assaulted, except in an instance where a rule like furious charge is in effect; furious charge only increases initiative for the model if the model is assaulting.
But in either case, the Banshees will strike first.

That is assuming that you use the gw FAQ. Astronomicon specifically doesn't use the GW FAQ's because a lot of times their rulings are wrong.

How can GW's FAQs about their own game be "wrong"?

Easy, they don;t follow the rules of the game. Furthermore, GW themselves say the FAQs (as opposed to Errata) don't mean anything. Also, it would help if they bothered writing their own FAQs once and a while.

Do I really need to remind everyone of the Tenets of YMDC again?
You are free to use or not use the GW FAQ's in your own games. But YMDC is not the place for rehashing the tired old topic of their validity. For the purposes of rules discussions here, since the majority of players do accept them as 'official' the GW FAQ's are as valid as the rulebook. So kindly drop the FAQ discussion. If you have nothing constructive to add to the thread, just move on.

-I believe you're correct.
-They assault vehicles and use heavy venom cannons, and biovores....well,maybe not.
