As part of the BIG SHOW GT, we have added a 40k tournament this year. Hosted by Showcase Comics and the BigGunz-NE gaming club. The GT runs for two days, July 24th and 25th, and includes a two day WFB 7th edtion 2999pt tournament, a biggers tournament on Sunday the 25th, and the Ironman 40k tournament on Saturday the 24th. Plus some silly pub games at the local bar until 2am Saturday night.
IronMan 40k Tournament
-1500 points, standard force organization from current codices.
-4 Games in one day.
-2 Tickets to the top two scoring players for the GW run 2011 tournament in Las Vegas.
-Scoring is by Battle Points only. No comp. No sports. No painting score.
-Prizes for the top 3 scoring players.
-Prizes for two Best Painted armies will be awarded, but paint score does not affect your placing in the tournament.
-Models must be WYSIWYG. If you have questions about models, especially 'counts as' or 'proxies', it's recommended that you call or email the TO ahead of time.
-Models must be painted to a basic 3 color standard, and must have a painted or flocked base. If you have questions on what the minimums are, please contact the TO.
-Scenery will be mixed from board to board, but will in general cover 20-25% of the table.
-Pairings will be random for round 1, with the exception of clubmates or people that traveled together not playing each other. You need to make this clear to the TO, before pairings are posted for round 1. Pairings will be swiss style for rounds 2-4.
-Missions: The 4 missions will be variations on the missions in the basic rulebook, using objectives and kill points for the primary objective. Each mission will have a primary and secondary objective, with the bulk of the points being in the primary. Missions will be posted at least one week before the tournament.
Game length: 2 hours. No rounds may start after the 1:50 mark. Players will given 10 minutes after the 2 hour mark to quickly finish a round. DICE DOWN! called at 2 hours and 10 minutes.
Cost: 30.00 - Lunch will be provided as part of the tournament cost. Currently the menu is looking like smoked turkey sandwhichs,
chilli, and other unhealthy but tasty items. Coffee and donuts in the morning for an early start.
Registration may be done online at www.BigGunz-NE.com. Any problems or questions about registering, contact Mike Clark
Schedule:

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Updates:
Missions:
I spent a bit of time working on the missions for 'Ardboyz Finals with GW, looking for errors, and they seemed a bit familiar. Over the years, several store owners/TO's have sent in missions to their Trade Sales reps who pass on the ideas to other stores. A couple of the missions looked familiar to me, as I had been going back over old missions I'd used before. So for 3 of the missions, I'll be using the missions that we run for the Final round of 'Ardboyz this weekend. If there are any things that need to be tweaked, we'll fix them, but keep them essentially the same.
4th mission will use objectives similar to Capture and Control, Dawn of War deployment, and one or two small twists.
I'll be posting the 3 missions from this weekend, along with complete rules for the 4th mission, on either Sunday or Monday, after I have some time to look at feedback from some players at the finals this weekend.

So we have a few more nice folks sponsoring the event and throwing stuff the way of the people showing up to roll dice.
-GaleForce 9/Battlefront are making some special objective markers and charge counters for everyone showing up.
-The makers of Procreate sculpting putty sent along some packs to hand out.
-Chris Nanry, the new TO of the Colonial GT has offered a free ticket for the Colonial
Add that to some nice trophies, and a heap of prizes and a few happy people will be heading home with an early Christmas.

This was awesome!
Thanks very much to Mikhaila for running such a cool event, and the great after-hours fun at the bar, etc.
To my mind this one really showed that four rounds in one day is completely doable in 5th edition, what with random game length and the current deployment system. I LOVED getting four games in a day; even if I had to get up at 4:15am to drive down in time. A 9am start makes it easy; there's just no good reason for so many stores to settle for a 10:30 or 11:00am start, when you can make so much better use of time.
I had four great games; gotta give shout outs to my opponents- Joe the prodigal painter with his amazing Krieg army, Paul M with his great-looking razorspam (good luck at the ETC! Kick butt for us!), Nick (yermom from here) with his nice-looking and nasty Fatecrusher list I had to run from all game, and George with his rockin' Orks. Joe had a tough matchup, but any of Paul, yermom, or George could certainly have beaten me and taken a golden ticket for themselves. And I have no doubt that all three will win tickets later and that I'll see you in Vegas!

Wait - this was a 20 person tournament that includes two vegas tickets? We run larger tournaments than this monthly in Chicago. (Not trying to boast or put this event down in any way) - How do we get Vegas GT tickets associated with our events?

I think there were originally slots for 32; I think it being a 4-rd tournament which was associated with a 2-day fantasy event at the same time may have been part of what qualified it for Vegas.
Thanks for the congrats! Originally I was going to run my chaos (and had a good game against the BW pirate Orks Friday night), but at the last minute my team mate Alex offered to let me borrow his wolves, and I found the prospect really tempting, as I'm probably never going to build a land raider army myself.
I ran:
Runepriest w/jaws, storm caller, meltabombs.
3x wolfguard: 2 w/fist & meltabomb, 1 Arjac.
6 GH w/power weapon, standard, meltagun
6 GH w/power weapon, meltagun
6 GH w/mark of the wolfen, standard, meltagun
2x Redeemer w/multimelta
1x Godhammer w/multimelta
The hardest game was against Nick's fatecrusher list, as I immobilized a Redeemer on T1, and had to drive over 6"/run away from the bloodthirster for most of the game.
I didn't look super closely at either Al's IG or Steve's bugs. Al's army was mech, with a bunch of chimerae, a couple of hydras, and 1 valk/vend, IIRC. I believe Steve's bugs included Tyranid Prime, a bunch of hive guard, termagants, stealers, and three Trygons.

Not sure if that's a rhetorical question, but the steps are basic.)
1. Talk to GW promotions about getting the rules/guildlines for the Indy GT circuit.
2. Organize a GT, and apply to be on the 2011-2012 circuit.
3. Get approved by GW.
4. Run tournament. 2 people for each system run qualify for Vegas Tickets.
This tournament had 32 slots, 26 signups, 6 no shows. I was sort of surprised at not having more people show up, but we do have the ICGT only 1.5 hours away on the next weekend, and the NOVA two weeks after that. The 1 day 40k event was part of a larger event with a 2 day WFB tourney, a begginers tourney on Sunday, and a highly competitive drinking....err, I mean PAINTING, contest on Saturday night.
