I'm about to start painting a squad of scout bikers, and i'm wondering... should I use predominantly black paint on their armor? I play Aurora Chapter, which is the same shade of green as salamanders. I'm thinking when painting the bikers, it might be a better idea to use black for most of the bike, and green only on a few pieces of the bike, as well as the scouts shoulder pads and chest armor, with black as the main color. They are scouts, and they should be stealthy, right? Opinions? Should I just match the all-green paint scheme I use for the rest of my army? I mean its not like black isn't used on other models in my army, its just not a dominant armor color.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

It sounds like a good idea, it is a good idea to paint them slightly different then the rest of your army, sience their from a different company.

Only the armoured bits of my scout bikers are painted in chapter colours.
The fuel tank, mudguards and seat fairing.
Of course, with my Star Wars marines, my scout bikers are on speeder bikes (mounted 8mm above the base, same height as a regular wheeled bike and don't have a front mudguard.).
The rest of the bike is metallics (apart from the console screen bits).

Very nice work, good clean lines...I've only just started doing the layering like that, although I use a darkr colour for the thin lines, but that actually works pretty well!

I like the clean, defined highlights. It may be a bit ott but I like it that way.

The thing about very defined line highlights is that they look MUCH BETTER on tabletop than in blown up pictures...
I find I like the look of 2-tone highlights, like the ones i've used, better than more subtle techniques, because they aren't readily apparent from more than 2' away.

ah, also, to differentiate between different companies of bikers, the outline of the star insignia is a different color. In my 6th company bikers, i've outlined the star in gold, in addition to the white trim of their power armor. Scouts, not wearing power armor, don't have the trim for me to change, so I changed the outline of the star to black. I think it looks pretty good, and is a subtle enough difference, yet noticable, if you place the two side by side.

Very nicely done, extra points for Aurora Chapter! One of my favorite successor chapters.

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you. |
