News released today by Battle Foam:

From Spencer!
For the past few weeks many rumors have been spread about 40k Radio and Battle Foam partnering up. Well, the facts are in and the good news can be shared. Battle Foam LLC has reached an agreement with Spencer Harding to buy the show. Battle Foam LLC is the new owner of 40K Radio LLC. 40K Radio has been registered as a new Arizona based company and will be run by the good folks at Battle Foam. Look for amazing new content and two great hosts named George Miller and Rik Massei. Stayed in touch with all the latest news on www.40kradio.com.
Battle Foam wrote:You may have heard that 40K Radio was cancelled a few weeks back. Spencer needed some time off and was ready to move on. Long story short, 40K Radio is back and better than ever. We have purchased it from Spencer and will operate it under the Battle Foam LLC. Umbrella.
40K Radio will be a new Arizona based business going under the name 40K Radio LLC. Below is an intro on the show and what will actually transpire once we get started later this month. I thought this would be something that would interest you.
The first show will be posted on July 15th as a half hour news brief and intro of new hosts. The first official show will be posted on August 1st and be set up as “We are back bigger and better than ever” show.
The format for the show will be as follows. 2 hours to 2.5 hours long.
* .0 – .50 This Week In Gaming
* .50 – 1.50 40K Segments
* 1.50 – 2.0 Interviews / Special Segments
* 2.0 – 2.25 Product Review
* 2.25 – 2.50 This week in Podcasting
New Ownership will be Battle Foam LLC. 40KRadio is now an official Arizona Based Company and will go by 40KRadio LLC. Under the Battle Foam LLC. Umbrella. Production of the show and guest scheduling will be arranged and handled by Romeo Filip and Teras Cassidy.
The two hosts will be George Miller as 1st Chair and Rik Massei “Captain Rikarius” as 2nd Chair. 3rd Chair will be guest hosts from various pod cast from time to time.
Spencer will not be part of the show but will stay in touch on the bootaz and will make guest appearances from time to time.

Spencer and his drunken debauchery is what made 40K Radio. It was more than just a few hosts bantering about the game, it was 40K 'entertainment'. If the new hosts don't have fun, lively personalities or lack good chemistry then the 'new' 40K Radio will be akin to New Coke.

Thats funny because I thought that is what ruined it...... drunken fools talking stopped being entertaining some time ago for me. I am really looking forward to a mature well done podcast. Thumbs up

Yeah, that show sucked at the end. It was just drunken idiots talking about anything BUT 40K.
To each their own, some people loved that, but I prefer more focused discussion.

Yes, to each his own.
If you want to-the-point discussion, no entertainment value podcasting, they're a dime a dozen on iTunes... All the same; vanilla.
As for me... I can only stand so much of the same. 40K Radio provided entertainment relief from the bland.
IMO, if you didn't like 40K Radio; quit being a stick in the mud, learn how to have from fething fun.

I'm willing to check it out. Heard about but never listened to the original. Battlefoam has earned enough goodwill through these forums that I'm willing to check out what they have to offer.

I have never listend to a podcast of any type, but dont those times seem a bit long? I mean, 2.5 hours is a HUGE block of time to fill just sitting there talking. I realize that production can stretch out ofver a much longer period of time, but it still just seems like forever.
Now, dont get me wrong; I could listen to 40k related convo for quite some time. I wouldnt have a problem listening for that long at all. Just seemed a bit much to try and produce to me, is all. What say ye, Dakka? How long are podcasts usually?

2.5 is on the longer side, but you can always pause.

This is good news to hear. I'm hoping that 40k Radio gets back to its roots.
Towards the end the show was a shambles. I thought Scott was a good addition after Phil left, but Chipley and Jar Jar were just obnoxious drunken idiots and it seemed like Spencer fell into that. The cussing, rampant homophobia, the infamous N-Bomb, and the nerd rage rants, all made the show a messy poorly done knock off of Howard Stern, that was loosely tied to 40k.
Although I don't personally know Romeo, I've seen what he's done in the community and him and I are part of the same family (Marines) so I know he'll make sure it stays professional and not the idiotfest that it became.

The podcasts I listen to (D6Generation, World's End Radio, Podhammer, 40k Radio) are all background stuff to listen to while I paint or build stuff. I like NPR and such, so the talk format works for me.

I find most podcasts rather dull unfortunately but agree they're good to listen too while painting.
The only one I like so far is the 40k Basement. These guys can be funny (and very rude which is a bonus).

40K Radio tended lack a little something at the end. Probably coherency.
I figure I can give the new format an episode or two to see if it still is good background for painting.

I hope having a podcast that's actually just a marketing tool will step on GW's toes when it comes to their trademarks and trade names. Then GW can give battlefoam a taste of their own medicine when it comes to frivolous lawsuits.
Romeo, make sure to heed the Judge's words:
At a minimum, a bit of sober reflection by Battle Foam and its counsel would seem to be in order.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

lol, this quote from the dismissal/judge cracked me up;
It is, of course, possible that the fifth round pick of the Florida Marlins in the 2000 draft is both a fan of Diablo bats and a collector in the war gaming miniature market who is
familiar with Battle Foam’s products. It is also possible that the baseball player who provided the testimonial for Diablo bats and the confused customer who contacted Battle Foam simply share the same name. A third possibility is decidedly less savory and, hopefully, is not the case here.

C'mon ... please let the legal stuff be dealt with by the lawyers. They're the ones that generally come up with the assinine tactics in the first place. And the Judge already did the scolding ...
At any rate, Romeo and Battlefoam have always put out a quality product and there is no reason to think they won't give the podcast the same attention.

Seems like both of these companies have taken some negative hits to their reputation in the past year or so.....now they're under the same umbrella! I wonder how much $$$ Spencer made off of 40k Radio through donations, Freebootaz, and now selling it to Battlefoam.
Anyway, here's hoping Battle Foam and the new 40kRadio hosts can deliver an entertaining show.

Please keep on the topic, which is the podcast.
There is a separate thread to discuss the lawsuit between the two foam companies.
Further digression in this thread will attract appropriate moderator action. Automatically Appended Next Post: Back on topic, if they are planning to fill two and a half hours with useful or interesting material it is a huge job.
I didn't listen to 40K Radio, however I would guess that it degenerated to semi-drunken rambling because they couldn't think of a better way to fill up the time.
I would certainly aim for a short, good show and risk having material left over rather than commit up front to a very long show.

I do not care about internal company squabblings, because it does nothing but compare to airing your personal dirty laundry.
The average laymen on the street doen't need to know some things about your companies personal issues.
The bottom line here is that 40K radio seems to have a new owner, and that they actually are putting some effort into revitalizing the soup sandwich that the show became at the end there.
I do wish the show luck and hope the quality is more enforced then the antics are.
I'm not above giving someone a second chance, if they bring something to the table and have something worth saying.
Good luck to these companies, because a quality show for you means a quality show for the rest of us.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. Hmm, not sure what to make of this.
I find it conserning about the inherant bias we should be expecting when it comes to carry case products; but then, 40k Radio was sponsored by Battlefoam. As long as they don't try to pass themselves off as Impartial like Fox News, I'll be ok with that.
I'm interested in any case, and will certainly give them a try - it's certainly going to be interesting to see what happens when two presenters step up to the plate because there is a need for their services, rather than the Pod Cast being created for their needs.

Am I the only one that isn't exactly certain how a 40k based podcast can really be biased? If they put out a quality product, people will listen. If not, they won't.
Maybe in a general gaming podcast there can be an issue with bias if a gaming company sponsored it, but I can't imagine any issues here.
