I've been playing a lot of Fallout 3 today after college, and after reading another post about good Apocalyptia-based literature, I've been thinking:-

What will become of humanity in the event of a mass extinction, such as a meteor strike or atomic holocaust?

Will humanity be completly wiped out, or would they be driven to extreme poverty, living in isolated shanty communities and surburban ruins such as in Fallout, where mercenarys and vigilanties rule the wasteland, or would it be something different, such as some areas remain relatively undamaged by "the event" and humanity survives better in these areas?

What's your thoughts on this?

For a meteor, we will build a three mile high Babe Ruth mech armed with a composite bad made from the Eiffel tower and all the redwood trees on the planet. He will subsequently knock away the meteor and knock its trajectory to Mars, where we will finally defeat the Martians once and for all.

For an atomic holocaust, we will be very care to make sure it only affects things we want gone, such as liberals and hippies.
