Hey Guys and Girls.

After several days of experimenting/fighting with my airbrush I have finished this stage of of my Landraider WIP.

First the images.

Fully masked up.

After the masking was removed.

Assembled with other parts.

This is the first time I have used an airbrush and I have learned a LOT.
The base coat for the blue is Necron Abyss. I had the paint too thick and I was holding the brush WAY too close to the model. As a result I forced the paint under the masking in some places so I will have to touch those up by hand.
The paint does have to be pretty thin, much thinner than I usually use when painting. Almost like water. I used wooden coffee stir sticks to mix the paint. When I pulled it out I could see the wood-grain through the paint. This was the right consistency.
Hold the airbrush AT LEAST 8 INCHES from the model. I did this for the highlight colours and it worked much better. Greater distance, plus thinner paint means the paint dries almost instantly when it hits the model.

I have to say that I would NOT recommend an Aztek A4305 brush. The idea of interchangeable nozzles for different spray effects sounds like a good idea, until you find ut that you cant take the nozzles apart to clean them. I have mine soaking in dish-soap constantly with an occasional soak in simple green just to keep them usable.

Air is important. I only have cans of air right now but a compressor is very high on my list of must haves. I started with a can of Testors air and later bought a can of GW. (I wasted a lot trying to get things right.) I think the GW one actually worked out better. Its cheaper and seemed to be generally better pressure.

I think that's the main points for now. Anny comments or advice would be much appreciated.

Oh and now I have a LOT of work still to go on the tank to finish it. There is a lot of weathering and stuff to go.

I admire your painting style, just looking at the marine and the lascannon make me realize how much I suck.

The only thing that stands out to me is the white has no depth, it really needs to be black lined so you can pick out the detail in the white sections better.

Otherwise a nice piece.

You may already know this but...
If you can stand the noise or can put it outside a proper industrial compressor is not only way cheaper then a dedicated paint compressor but gives a better finish due to the tank and superior air flow management you need to set it up right though IE you need filters in place or the air will be full of rusty oily water! 25Litre tank is about perfect so its not topping up constantly oh and make sure you turn the pressure WAAAAAY down I learnt the hard way that 100psi will paint the far end of the living room! As a bonus you can use it for DIY and even pressure casting if you get into that as I have

Looks great. Love how the door is rusty, but the white right below it is perfect and crisp.

The more I see Airbrush paintjobs the more I want to pick one up. Great job.

That is a beautiful piece. Skill and technique and troubles not withstanding, it has a very aesthetically pleasing quality.

Makes me want to try my air brush out...such an intimidating piece of equipment....

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Everything was looking great up until you revealed it was Ultramarines....
I'm kidding, its looking great! I really like the freehand on the Sponson, and the Mechanicus driver really adds a focal point! I can't wait to see it finished!

This is shaping up to be a ride worthy of "Big Mittens" Calgar himself, now get it finished so I can stop holding my jaw up and let it hit the floor where it belongs

I think plain white can look a little bad, why not spray it space wolves grey and then touch up the exposed surfaces with white? Then you'd get some nice colouring in the recesses.

Thanks for the very kind words guys.

There is still a lot to do. I am planning on running some watered down Asurman Blue through the panel lines and around the details, so that should give the white some definition. I am also planning on adding quite a bit of weathering. So that the closer to the ground you get, the more grimy it gets.

@Henners91 I agree that Space-wolf Grey as a base-coat for the white would probably have looked better. Its too late for this model now. But I might try it on the next one if I stick to the mainly white scheme.

I'm basing this one off a Landraider I saw in one of the Forgeworld books.

Obviously I'm putting my own spin on it.

@Lorne Its hard to see in the images but the sides have the Forgeworld Spaced-Armour kits added. The Aquila are part of them, they will eventually be painted the same stone colour as the ones on the door.

Once again, thanks for the kind words.
