Does the book let the canoness use her leadership value without ever modifying it? (like -1 etc... from losing assaults)
or does this book just work for units within 6".

The canoness herself is technically a friendly unit. If you want to argue how the canoness cannot be friendly to herself, then it's basically semantics.
You COULD argue that, but the BA codex finally puts that spurious argument to rest - Corbulo gets a 3+ FNP roll from being within 6" of his chalice, under the exact same "friendly unit" rule...
