So, I was looking over some Empire lists I drew up and realized that the minimum core requirements, if I exclude detachments, are not enough. However, I went back the armybook and noticed the wording - "Detachments do not count towards the minimum number of Core Troop choices." So, how should that be interpreted until we see a FAQ? There is no minimum number anymore, but a minimum percentage.

Thoughts?

I have gone with detchments 'Dont count towards minimum percentage' in my Empire List. I have no problem with that as i love lots of troops

Strictly speaking, though, RAW it would not apply, right? Unless they FAQ it specifically.

RAW - it no longer has any effect.

This WILL change in the errata, 99% sure of that

I do wonder on that. It might not.

The 8E book specifies that if a unit is listed as not counting towards minimum core, then it doesn't count towards the 25% minimum.

RAW, Detachments (along with Harpies, Warhounds, etc.) don't count. I'd be willing to be that will change.

Where does it say that, by chance (section? page?) I need to look it up when I get to my shop.

I don't have the book, but try reading the section on composition.

If I may add to the confusion; if a unit of Greatswords takes a detachment, does that detachment count towards the maximum percentage of Special units?

Mission 1: Finish my 3000pts of Empire

Mission 2: Someday Finish my extensive Terrax guard conversions, for a full force org

Chances of success, slim

No.

For clarification, the rule is on page 134 under Core choices. The detachments, as well as anything that has the "doesn't count as a minimum core choice" rule or its many incarnations, fall into the "other" category like warbeasts and swarms. They take up points, they just don't count towardsthe min/max percentages.
